dunno what helmet u saw...might be some old spare helmet from the store. all fds rifleman are from tekong bmt so we use the same as everyone elseOriginally posted by chanjyj:Does anyone here know if our helemt is a derivative of the USA PASGT helmet or the SPECTRA helmet (which is also derived from the PASGT)?
Or is at a pure OEM version?
Regarding the different branches of the SAF, does the army, airforce and navy use different helmets (though they look the same?) Askingn this because I saw an FDS helmet with seemed to be produced in KOREA by a KOREAN company (forgot name), while i have not seen such things in the army helmet.
Another thing to note, is that helmets over the past 10 years, have appeared to have come from different manufacturers?
It is the Dae-Sung Tech one (as posted in the second post). But I notice some other helmets are NOT MADE by Dae-Sung Tech-in fact, I don't even know where they are made of.Originally posted by boltstorm:dunno what helmet u saw...might be some old spare helmet from the store. all fds rifleman are from tekong bmt so we use the same as everyone else
interesting comment... informative.Originally posted by blitzonic:Not Spectra, cuz that one has its own patented fabric for armour material (different from Kevlar). Also, I was issued my helmet (plus the then-new SBO) during my first or 2nd ICT, which make it 1989 or 1990. Definately wore it for the Military Tattoo parade in 1992. The Spectra helmet was introduced & refined by the French during those years, according to Internet notes.
Guess the answer is Pasgt but, if so, not in the way you would perceive it. Firstly, Dupont is the inventor & owner of Kevlar & it issues licences to worldwide manufacturers to make them accordingly (the fabric, not the helmet). Secondly, I assume the US Army patented the Pasgt but that's not to say that it concurrently owns the "Fritz helmet" shape of the headgear too -- since it's obviously modelled on the German WWII version & which other present designs like the Spectra takes its inspiration from too.
Need to look more into this, but common sense there's no need to copy or buy directly from the American model. Dupont is a longtime MNC here, so perhaps they served as middleman in helping the SAF network with their partner (but non-military) helmet contractors/designers in producing a local version.
Seriously?Originally posted by chanjyj:Strangely, Dae-Sung Tech seems to be producing mainly CONCRETE?

That is why I wonder why they are handling helmets for the SAFOriginally posted by wonderamazement:Concrete helmets?
I recall that combat helmets are classified as a controlled item for import and export, and by right can't be sold abroad. They are supposed to be returned to ALB upon MR.Originally posted by chanjyj:anyway.. does anyone know if MINDEF directive prohibhits us from bringing the helmet out of SG, eg I carry as hand luggage? and would it be a prob if I wear it overseas?
(yes, my assignment is not a very pleasent one, I think)
There are some motorcycle helmets that look like the PASGT ones.Originally posted by LazerLordz:I recall that combat helmets are classified as a controlled item for import and export, and by right can't be sold abroad. They are supposed to be returned to ALB upon MR.
Maybe you might need to check with the Police Arms Licensing Branch regarding personal use, because I don't think MINDEF website has any info.
Does your helmet have any identifying tags that say it's SAF equipment?
I can easily get rid of the tags if needed-just like our uniforms, I can simply tear out the "SAF property" tags.Originally posted by LazerLordz:I recall that combat helmets are classified as a controlled item for import and export, and by right can't be sold abroad. recently shifted to the korean company as stated by one of the FDS people here.Originally posted by whitenoise:Well I have the helmet manual, and it refers to it as "ballistic" helmet. On the helmet its label is "Helmet, Ground Troups" (I think).
Its local distributor is All Defence Technology Pte Ltd.
It's a controlled item .. and why on god's green earth would you bring your helmet overseas anyway?Originally posted by chanjyj:recently shifted to the korean company as stated by one of the FDS people here.
Any police force person here knows whether I can carry my helmet overseas with me?

I certainly don't want to be spotted in a green Army helmet. Its better to remain a civilian.Originally posted by chanjyj:I do photography in dangerous places sometimes
