MINDEF webbie has some info on the course i think.Originally posted by stellazio:anyone has any info regarding this course? like how long is it, and what time of training they go thru?
or izzit classified info?
Why doesn't 1 CDO make the training mandatory for the troopers then?Originally posted by Gedanken:Why should it be part of our ORBAT? The SAF does not maintain Ranger units like the 1/75, but the raid and LRRP roles are picked up by 1 CDO Bn. As for attending the course, it's a skills course not necessarily limited to a role within any given unit.
Err because 65 days out of a NSF 2 years service is like quite alot?Originally posted by Icemoon:Why doesn't 1 CDO make the training mandatory for the troopers then?

extend their ORD date.Originally posted by stellazio:Err because 65 days out of a NSF 2 years service is like quite alot?
Considering that most CDO will pass Ippt and serve only 1 year 10months, add to that the 14 days of leave each year almost another month gone? Just my view.

However a regular Cdo are advise to get their Ranger tab (red or yelow) for their own good.Originally posted by Icemoon:Why doesn't 1 CDO make the training mandatory for the troopers then?
I heard for those red beret, if they failed to get thru ranger course, they will henta kaki up to some rank like first sergeant or captain.Originally posted by Short Ninja:However a regular Cdo are advise to get their Ranger tab (red or yelow) for their own good.
That is not true either but when it comes to staying in the unit on a long term it is advisable to have the tab.It does not contribute to the hentak kaki but it does help in promotion.Originally posted by will4:I heard for those red beret, if they failed to get thru ranger course, they will henta kaki up to some rank like first sergeant or captain.
Airborne Yes Ranger NO but in the old days regular CDO are also advised to get a black belt in TKD and be Diver trained.Originally posted by pwnz0r:i feel out of touch...
i believe once upon a time all CDOs have to be rangers and be airborne qualified?
hmmm...
You dont have to be airborne qualified to attend the Ranger course and rapelling is not part of Airborne training. And yes, have to indent tonners because that it usually how trainees are insertedOriginally posted by Icemoon:I have a related question.
Must all ranger wannabes be airborne qualified?
imagine telling the conducting officer, "sorry sir, me no airborne badge, neither do I know rapelling .. can you indent tonner for my insertion?"
what is the use of going through the course if Rangers are not part of our ORBATIt's more of a leadership course, like OCS. Ranger training primarily means Ranger school (like the US version) -- you learn the tactics, master the terrains, test your endurance, etc. -- &, after passing out, you adapt the acquired skills according to your unit/formation.
Will your skills come into handy if you are just a regular unit OC, for example? Why not? The curriculum is traditionally "light" infantry in focus &, in this context, always applicable to paratroopers, Marines, special forces & any other RDF outfit (airmobile, seaborne, Mountain/Ski troops).
So in other words, passing the ranger course is an important factor n for those red beret never clear ranger course, will they posted out of the redOriginally posted by Short Ninja:That is not true either but when it comes to staying in the unit on a long term it is advisable to have the tab.It does not contribute to the hentak kaki but it does help in promotion.
But that is not what is advertised in Pioneer.Originally posted by blitzonic:It's more of a leadership course, like OCS. I heard Ranger course is tougher than SOF selection, in fact it is the toughest course in the SAF.Originally posted by blitzonic:We don't need dedicated Ranger units cuz their modern ops can be executed by our specialized units: CDO (covert, recon), GDS (RDF), SAF-SOF, RSN-SWG, PCG-STS (SOC-type missions), et al.
