Soldiers down with upset stomachs
AT LEAST 118 Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) servicemen at Pasir Laba Camp came down with gastrointestinal disease on Thursday. Symptoms included diarrhoea and in some severe cases, vomiting.

Today understands that they were struck down with the illness after they had apparently consumed meals on Wednesday at the camp's cookhouses. None of the camp's cookhouses have been closed while investigations are ongoing.

As a standard practice, food samples are taken from meals consumed by servicemen and kept for three days before they are disposed of. Samples from Wednesday's meals are now being tested and the results will be known on Sunday.

Mindef spokesperson Colonel Darius Lim said the 118 SAF servicemen suffered mild symptoms of gastrointestinal disease. Appropriate medical treatment and rest in camp were accorded to the affected servicemen, he added.

Pasir Laba Camp at Jurong is considered the home of SAF Warrant Officers and Specialists, housing the School of Infantry Specialists (Sispec) among other units.

Many years back I also kenna mass stomach upset during BMT. After investigation they found that it was due to the water.

The whole camp should shut down,everyone not affected in the camp should go home for 1 week off.

I thot all soldiers are given booster shot to counter germs that cause food poisoning.
I never had diarrhea during my NS days. We drank water straight from the taps to save money on soft drinks.
We even drank water from flowing streams(not stagnant water) during training.
Hahaha....what's wrong with today's people? -
kns i also kena stomach upset... first casualty in my platoon... kns... somemore come at the wrong time... during stand by bed....kns

actually hor, sometimes the food SFI serve us aren't fresh at all.

Dun jump to wrong conclusion. Wait for the report out b4 we gives comments. Any officers among those soldiers down with upset stomach? It may not be the food at the cookhouse.
