No, NCC and NPCC doesn't prepare u for NS.
Joining the scouts does, provided u learn ur fieldcraft well. The most outstanding recruits I've met were scouts. -

Unless of cos.. u going to apply for saf scholarship or sumtin.....
it only prepares you for drills.... and at least u know how to tie ur boot laces...

I quite agree that Scouts have advantage over NCC and NPCC chaps. Scouts know how to tie knots, survival etc. NCC only advantage is you know the M16, know abit of IFC. Well the rest, I will fill you guys more when I'm inside.

I feel it does prepares you for NS to a certain extent, like what others say, drills etc.. -

There is sum advantage...but just dun tell yur BMT instructors yur frm those uniformed goups...cos they'll always aim u to be demonstrators and fark u up if u dunno...

i do agree scouts give more than just skills alone. i find their leadership ability to be stronger for some reason. not sure why.

Honestly, I think scouts spend more time in the field. They go for long walks, go into the weeds to build campsite and structure. Eat outfield with the bugs and creepy crawlies. Their advantage is that they do that VERY often.
NCC cadets are more or less seen around school doing sai kang. ( I suppose thats one preparation for NS also )
Learning to shoot an M-16 is no big advantage. Anyone shoot a weapon. BMTs BTP adequately prepares a recruit even if he has no firearms experience. Most non NCC cadets are able to shoot with above average results.
So if you want a CCA that prepares you for NS. Join scouts. The conditioning that it provides to field environment is invaluable. -

Oh...NCC also help fitness...if you're a cadet lah. Will always remember being tekanned jialat jialat. Anyway, to continue on...getting to a certain level of fitness is easy, cuz you're focused and centered. You are v.clear that you want to get there. But once you are there, its difficult to maintain. There's a saying in the SAS, "Getting There Is Easy, Staying There Is Hard"
Anyway, to be frank...juz my personal opinion, you look at NPCC and NCC leaders, many are like cyclops. Use eyepower only, the men do. Not my way of leadership...I will not ask them to do something which I will not do first. -
in my opinion, for those who wanna go command sch (read: OCS, SISPEC) I think scouts is a good bet.
they do knots in much detail (more than NPCC) and since SIT test is a major component in choosing leaders, they have an advantage. Having a scout in your SIT test grp means you can confirm complete 50% of yr missions, unless you got an incompetent scout.
Scouts also do marches, even overnight hikes. This is a good prep for NS route marches.
All UGs do drills, and i think NPCC does the most drills, unless perhaps, you're in some very on Military Band.
NCC's advantage is that they know how to wear No.4, some basic IFC, some knowledge of SAF, some basic M-16 range (25m and 100m)
NPCC and Scouts do have outfield camps, NPCC in Ubin and Scouts in Sarimbun(?) i think. And with outfield you get used to being amongst the weeds, the creepy crawlies..hahaha
I think all 3 UGs do first aid so that's not a big problem.
I still feel scouts have a big big advantage...haha.. -

cos in ncc u do something wrong u can get away. but in saf, u did something wrong means real punishments -
i'm a bit worried actually. from past experiences, whenever there's a NCC thread, there will bound to be lots of heated up discussion.

If the NPCC training is tough, the kid will be fit enough. Will know some drills as well.
If it isn't... then there's nothing to talk about. It's just 4 or 5 years wasted there.
For my batch... we wasted 3 years. Sec 1 and 2 training is tough, after that, anyhow anyhow.
Then the later batches... nothing to say anymore. If you see their drills, you really wonder if the instructors are sleeping. -
i suppose it will be over generalised to say that Ncc do not have outfield camps...it really depends on the ncc unit you are in.Every Ncc unit has different activities for their cadets to participate in.Subsequently not all scout units have outfield training as well..therefore ultimately it is not which Uniform group you join but rather the activities that the school unit has.
