Guys, let's compare from year 2000 till now what are the soliders field equipment that the latest solider have. When I went back for my ICT recently, I realise
L-touch replace by a black looking solid mag light.
Jackknife replace to latest SOG.
Fieldpack replace to BIGGER fieldpack.
Ali baba bag replace to a spacious black duffle bag.
What else? Anybody knows more about it?
recruit from 240 - 400.
err sbo replaced by lbv?
why did they scrap the l torch

No idea too, those ITI officer told me about it that L-torch will be phase out soon & replace by a solid looking mag light. The mag light are available in e-marts & cost pretty cheap too if I not wrong cos some of my platoon mates brought it.
MagLight much better
L torch spoils damn easily
maglite is a brand.
so u guys can call it maglite.
even the helmet lining is better ....
I was looking at my bro's equipment ..... they have such a luxurious lining for the helmet now ... but I think the chinstrap is worse ....
and the LBV looks like a filmsy piece of crap ...
Something I forgotten is our no 4 will be phasing out soon & replace by dunno what no 4 which I can't remember as again the officer told me about it.

less than 2 yr implemented the singapore tag, vocation tag, formation tag n change name tag. now this? what a waste of taxpayers money... must write to the govt online cut waste panel.
Most of the new equipment has been 'tailored to local needs', or to drop the euphemisms, they have been downgraded to cut costs. When first fielded, the new LBVs and Field packs were made by Force 21 and they used better materials and had more QC. Now they issue the ones made by D&G, and frankly they are more prone to failure. The waterbags were originally from Source, a reputable Israeli brand, now also made by D&G and leak more often. The SOGs that are issued have fewer tools than the original version-- IIRC Sheares supplies both types, but the full version that I bought costs SGD 126 while the issued version costs 74 credits, which theoretically equals to SGD 74.
Some of the cost-cutting makes sense, but some don't-- for example, the rate of water bag failure/leakage is ridiculous. The Source water bag that I was issued at OCS is still going strong 2 years later, but D&G water bags hardly last 1-2 months. I'd recommend everybody to go to a sports store or beach road and get a Source or Camelbak water bag instead-- you may have to spend some money, but at least you won't suddenly lose your water and potentially get your No.4 and everything in your field pack wet :(
