u call them staff or master if its SSG/MSG, or encik, or sergeant major?
coz in BMT our coy sergeant major taught us to address him as Sergeant Major.
then when i went to unit people do not call the BSM Sergeant Major. Instead they call him Staff or Master. Some of the lau jiaos call him encik.
so how do u all address ur CSM or SSG MSG rank specs? what is the most common form of address? Anyway what do u think they prefer us to call?
Is there any SM that tell people off for calling him wrongly? Eg. u call him Encik n he tell u off not to call him that n ask u to call him Staff/Master instead.
i will either address em as encik or just don't greet em at all.
depends on unit preference. My unit people call them BSM/CSM. RSM we call sir.
If there are several Sirs together, we'll say Warrent (surname) sir.
example : Warrent Tan Sir, can I check....
Warrent melvin Sir, can I ask...
SSG-1WO = Encik
1WO - SWO = Lau Cek (sometimes Sir to SWO due to respect of his experience)
Female WOs = Warrant xxxx (name) xxxx(name) jie (when you are close with one another in the office)
as TS you can see, different unit different practises.. My side, SSG we call them "Staff XXX", MSG call them "Master XXX", WOs and commissioned officers are call Sirs/Ma'am.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
i ignore them.

we address them this way too..
try to siam the rsm as far as possible.. normally when you see him, something bad might happen!
I call my csm by his name.
See RSM,Ops Wo,Int Wo I call them sirs.
Kinda weird since BMT taught me to call WOs enciks.
i call them, "siao eh.. c me no need to greet ah?"
encik lor
onli RSM i call sir
other than that..if spec got crab..call encik...even the staff sergeants..
personal preferance actually
I guess most CSM,RSM, BSM....like to be call encik. They felt they are being repected. Also I guess it's a term referred to them only.
i can't be bothered to greet anyone unless that fella is my friend.
so if the WO is my friend, i will just call "OI~!" or his name or his nickname.
SSG are always called Staff, unless they have Sergeant Major appointment.
MSG are always called Master, unless they have Sergeant Major appointment. Female MSG can address with Mdm also.
WO can be addressed as Encik or Sir. Commissioned officers are never called Encik.
I ignore them. But then I ROD many years ago already!

Yes generally tt's the case for how everyone greets the different ranks.. But different unit, different crowds of people, slightly different ways of how the different ranks are being greeted.. Say for example WOs, for the past years they have gone through the phase of being called "Encik", then change to "Sir" , then back to "Encik" now again (all because of ever changing directives).. So therefore they dont mind u call them "Sir/Ma'am" or "Encik/Cik" , doesnt matter to them..

we got call our own CSM lau cik.. haha.. in our own conversations..
"you think I'm your friend is it! knock it down!"
sometimes my mates get that for being funny or when he hears it. :P
my OC also very funny one la. always come in my bunk play the "Room!" and everyone have to freeze and someone ask for permission. everytime sure got people move one.. so kenna knock it down, hold it there, all those.. :D
come to think of it, if not for such things, it wouldn't have been memorable.
if those i know them well i sometimes call them by name....
if respect will be encik
You General wat!
actually there was a directive not too long ago....
all WOs are no longer called Sirs, instead the informal 'encik' is now the formal way to address them.
All BSM, CSM, RSMs can also be called sergeant majors. but usually BSM, RSM will not like you to call them sergeant majors, cause machiam like CSM only.
Usually i greet them all encik, they'll always be happy, and its also the recognised formal way of addressing warrant officers.
Knowing how to address someone whose rank is higher shows what kind of soldier and a diciplined person you are.

i heard that it was my DSM who pushed for this directive to be taken place. my DSM was the person who initiated the khaki admin tee.
anyway, if anyone calls my DSM as sir or encik, be prepared for a good fking. he rather be called sgt maj. even when i see him outside, i call him sgt maj as a form of respect.
