Other than places which cant access as someone has pointed out to you, it is a training of combat endurance and fitness. This is very different from physical endurance and fitness.
RIP.
but you must admit that it is dam sad. parents spent 18/ 19 yrs bringing him up, only to have him dying in first few weeks of PTP/ BMT, as a lowly chao recruit.
it may be ok for people to die in a war while serving army. but to die during training, BMT somemore, not even POP yet, is simply a waste.

Up to CO's discretion and family's acceptance.
my condolences.
that 2km was just a normal walk without anything on, i dont really consider as a route march. furthermore it's only the very first day of training for that coy and it's very shocking for such an incident to happen.
sigh. what a stuff to mark the start of POP day.
The coy OC needs to write a Death report...
personally if i was the commander, i would be lost for words on how to write a report. sure, report can be your standard SOP template... but the emotions you have to overcome, and commanders are all human. gosh.
This is not meant to start a witch hunt. But tekong medical center has to provide a break down of the 49 mins it took to evacuate him to SGH.
Was the safety rover present? How long it took for Safety Rover to send him to Tekong MC, and how long it took to call for heli-evac.
he's having his military burial the day after tmr.
his 5th day in BMT only like this
sgts drawing no.1
My friend got heat exhausted after the 12km march and he almost went off.
I believe recruits have to learn how to take care of themselves like drinking hell lots of water during the route march.
Will he up 2 ranks?
we will start seeing hongkan letters in the straits time in the coming few days.

according to the news report, incident site to tekong mc took 5 minutes.
the lack of info is the distance from site to medical centre. if the 2km walk is within the BMTC complex stadium/swim site, i believe a medic with stretcher, along with help from coursemate stretcher bearers can run a bit faster than a land rover travelling at 50km/hr with turns n twists in the roads in tekong.
MOs and medics also tried their best in the ER Resusitation room n to keep things under control, with the ER medicine in the E-trolley, AED defib, Microvent oxygen, CPR...etc.
there is a lot of protocols SOP for heli-evac. IIRC, must call up GSOC get approval authorisation, BMTC command authorisation...etc.

1)It takes time for medic to be activated and landrover to reach Medical centre.
2) The MO in teking have to access n give immediate medical attention immediately after the patient arrive. this takes time.
3)When the MO decides to call for helicasevac, it takes time for us and the heli to be activated and to arrive.
4)It takes time for transport of patient to heli n taking over.
5)It takes time for heli to reach hospital.
Being a heli medic in the past, I believe the medics and Mo have tried their best so its no point blaming anyone.
Deepest Condolences Comrade...
I don't know what to say/think considering I'm going in in less den 40hrs.

impt thing is know your limits. only you yourself know it.
if you feel unwell just fall out. the sgts would not stop you from doing so.
even simple thing as walking can cause abrasion for some people.
its a one off incident la.. and i doubt it has anything to do with the so called tough physical training as it isn't.. but probably to him as he's in the obese batch.. and some of those fellas probably hasn't done much exercises in their life before.. coupled with an unhealthy lifestyle, their heart might not be able to take it..
anyway at least they gave him a military burial.. but the parents..sigh~

Erm, conditioning and fitness?
And ultimately infantry still have to walk significant distances in modern times.

I think it'll turn out fine, I've been both in unit and BMTC as a spec and in general BMTC runs a tighter safety ship due to the fact that they take recruits.
That is if things are still done the way they were when I was there that is... it's almost been 2 years since ORD.
RIP fellow comrades, condolences to is family.
now i guess the commanders and appointment holders have a tough time getting over this incident and writing the report.
Sad... not even enlisted for a week
