the duty roster planned by the spec or clerk. he seems to always put himself n his friends on weekdays n then others kenna weekends, n everytime like this every month. or perhaps he put his enemies on weekends or public holiday.
got happen before? so did u or the victim voice out to someone about the unfairness n discrepancy?
True, it is not fair. But suck thumb, this is SAF.
But let's say you are the guy in charge of allocating duties. When your friends ask you for a better timeslot, of course you will try to give preference to them. This is how 'pulling strings' work. Trust me, it is not easy to refuse them. Even with a points system to allocate, there will still be some people doing extra duties. Afterall, I cannot ask a man to do half or one quarter or a duty. And there is no perfect system. People will always argue for a change in the system but I usually dismiss them because that system is simply advantageous only to them and not to everyone.
When we were still under training, I was the Guard Duty I/C. It was a terrible job. It is not easy to be nice nor is it possible to accomodate everybody's last minute requests. Obviously I was not well liked. But I always tell people, 'You can scold me and my family, but you still need to do your duty...'
Now, I am a spec who plans duty.
It depends on the person who plans the duties.
You can only hope that he is not biased upon anyone and plans the duties fairly for everyone.
That's the ideal situation though.
Lucky I was in such a unit.
put those chao keng ones on weekends.
those kilat ones on weekdays.
in bslc...out of 10 weeks, i kenna 5 guard duties, 1 cos.
out of that 4 are regimental, 3 are on long weekends and 1 on the day the coy goes to chevron.
you tell me, was that purposefully done or what. 1 platoon so many people always choose me?
fck them.

Since they are chao keng, they will surely chao keng when they see you put them on weekends. Encountered a few examples in my unit...
Anyway was suffering for a few months....not friday duty then saturday duty.
The duties are regimental.
Got 8 people during that time, how come always me kenna friday?
If the person doing the duty roster is unfair, what to do?
If you are the person, you will also put yourself mostly on weekdays right?
Last time my CSM damn lazy. ask my PS to plan duty.
That time my PS very bastard... new Spec, weird names, ppl he dulan.... will always kena more duty and on weekends.
He still got the cheek to say, "because you new mah"
then apparently the practice very common across the unit until CO got to know about it.
CO gave my encik 7 extra. haha
I rather have duty on PHs than weekends coz got off in lieu.

Towards ORD, i actually prefer weekend/PH duties.
Less people disturb me.
Lol same here, weekend duties are actually the least siong, but having to stay on Tekong does count against it somewhat. But towards ORD you don't really care about booking out that much anymore, it just does not seem to matter.
I actually had it pretty good with the duty planning, had runs of good weeks and bad weeks but all in all it was a pretty average experience. And our CSM was a pretty fair guy that paid back our weekend duties with off days and the like.
Prehaps it's less of the duties and more of the people you have to work with.
Unfortunately some others might not see it the same way, and the duty roster can be a tool that is used to make life difficult for some. But hey it's the SAF...
guard duty is a service to our nation. always rmb, duty above self.

then y don't u "bao shan bao hai" for 1 month trial and then come here then talk...
pulling strings is VERY IMPORTANT in SAF.
if you "pull the right strings" with everyone in the camp, then during your duty:
-very few turn-outs, and even if there is and you happen to be on duty that night, the Guard Com / 2IC will not tekan you and leave you alone
-the number of duties you do per month is drastically reduced (last time, i do average of 5 while other "marked" guys do 7 - 9, no kidding, and i never kenna duty for holidays, CNY etc. :D)
-you can slack during your duty or sleep and Guard Com etc. close one eye
such is SAF. :-D
