The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) unveiled its new Urban Operations (UO) training facility on 5 September 2008. It's known as the Murai Urban Training Facility (MUTF) and will comprise some 200 buildings of various sorts when completed.
Here are the first shots of the sprawling training ground. The urban landscape comprises four distinct areas:
* Old town - A confusing mix of low-rise developments, typically found in a slum area.
* New town - Commercial and housing developments linked by a road network. Includes drains, canals and street fences and street lighting. There is also an overhead bridge and bus stops.
* Residential - Low and high rise housing.
* Industrial - Factory-type buildings.
There is also a Water Works.
Buildings are pre-fab and pre-cast concrete.
Air space over the facility has been cleared for use by fast jets and helicopters. This will facilitate combined arms manoeuvres, supported by ground attack runs by RSAF warplanes and Apache attack helicopters.
Infrastructure explained. This is the view looking East. The training area extends all the way to the edge of the frame of the picture, with the two/three storey shop houses barely visible in this view.
There are alot more buildings not featured in this view.
Not visible are 150 metres of tunnels under the town.
Street level view of the MUTF. The roads are left unpaved as armoured vehicles will also use the training facility. Note the bus stop.
MINDEF said:"Built to resemble a typical town, the MUTF offers a range of realistic training scenarios, from small tactical engagements to large-scale combined arms manoeuvres."
About 1,000 troops can use the facility.
The buildings are built with an indoor tracking system to monitor troops as they enter the buildings.
The system tracks troops and vehicles in real-time, along with tactical engagements and casualties. The ability to simulate behind wall weapons effects should be a boon to UO training and small unit warfare in built-up areas.
Commercial buildings come with the five foot way and shuttered store fronts.

None of these is sensitive info I hope?

SINGAPORE: To support the development of the SAF's urban operation capabilities, a new training facility has been developed.
The Murai Urban Training Facility (MUTF) resembles a typical town. It is located within the SAFTI's Live Firing Area at Lim Chu Kang.
The facility features various urban districts to expose soldiers to different operating environments. These include multi-storey buildings and single-level houses.
For greater realism, features such as bus stops, traffic lights and overhead bridges have also been added.
To date, 150 buildings have been completed and training activities have commenced in these buildings.
The completed facility will house a total of 200 buildings and it will also include a variety of battlefield-effect simulators to further enhance training realism.
The facility is equipped with video monitoring and recording functions as well as a control tower for after-action reviews. These equipment will facilitate learning and doctrine development for the soldiers.
Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean launched the Murai Urban Training Facility on Friday.

that depends on whether you think the rows of neatly planted trees in tekong are meant to be user friendly lol
where did u get those aerial photos?
I thought those kind of short bungalow-like buildings can only be found in certain rich private residential estate of Singapore...not exactly a 'common' feature in Singapore.
Where are the HDB flats and the skyscrapers (not as if terrorist will not attack the CBD area)?

Which aerial photo?
If you're asking about the first pix it was taken from the balcony of one of the structures in the MUTF.
it was purposely made to look like our neighbour
Hellraiza, the 1SG at the last pic is holding a different variant of the SAR21 ar ???

Yep. Here's a front view.
can bbq there?? still remember my bbq at one of the tekong rpl ramp... alot of meat with alot of cheap duty free beer... shiok sia..and just sleep on the ramp watching the stars above us.....
Hmm, does it means that SAF will equip the SAR21 MMS to everyone, or just to section commanders only ? I got a feeling that it is quite impossible to do that for every soldier. But for commanders only, it sounds quite possible ... or is that still for wayang news only ??
