i went for e CBRE (Chemical Biological Radioactive Explosive) unit spec recruitment talk last week..
e captain there pointed out alot of 'good' things abt it: 9 weeks course (or
izit 7?), $300 additional pay, no outfield, no SOC.. then e training
camp at seletar and changi, much nearer to my place than arti armour n
signals..
then he pointed out some "siong" things in e course, like wear e
bomb/chemical suit do 4km road march, wear gas mask almost whole day,
national events like NDP etc will be called to do bomb checks so no
holiday (but he said will be compensated with like 2-3 days leave?)
would just like to ask those who've done it or have friends
who do it, whether the above things are true? i know full well how these recruitment talks sing endless praises but end up breaking promises.. also, could more info be
shed on the course, like e high key activities and its siong-ness? any
info and opinion would be much appreciated..!
11 week. 4 basic eng, 7 weeks specialisation.
But from what I heard, sign on don't get the auto enter CBRE specialisation. must complete 7 weeks specialisation of field engineer then go over to CBRE/EOD.
Duration is quite long lor.
But why sign on Spec? Officer would be better imo in terms of pay.
If I not wrong, regular is $400 more.
Road march in mop4, play sports in gas mask, run with gas mask.
Weekends will be burnt, big events also have to go down, public holidays with big scale events also burnt.
EOD is different though, the suit is 30+ kg with a little fan in the 'helmet' compartment.
Then heard got quite alot of studying about bombs, how it can be activated, how to find the main charge, where is the fuse, all types of bombs around the world. How to determine if it's a fake or not.
EOD means EVERYDAY ON DUTY. standby 24/7. Shopping centre call you, you go down.
In both cases, the sweating in the suits is yucky. :D
hi
thanks for ur reply. but dont get me wrong about signing on when i said spec recruitment talk. they were looking to promote awareness and interest in the unit for specs, NSF and regulars alike (NSF= normal guys who serve 2 yrs and go off right?). they made us do a lot of paper tests and answered our queries.
ok so.. physical torture with gas mask on, test of endurance with mop4 RM, burn weekend and public holidays, standby 24/7, alot of studying.. but how bad is it compared to other spec units? armour, arti, signals.. they have RMs, SOCs, outfields, weekend duties dont they?.. if im wrong about any of the other 3 units kindly point it out cos im not really informed about them..
erm lastly.. i just realised that the title of the thread was changed from what i originally named it.. its not sign on, just asking about how it's like being a CBRE / EOD spec. thanks.
out of curiosity : does CBRE / EOD specialist deals with defusing/deactivate/removal of landmines as well?
this kinda thing mostly restricted infomation lah.
xiong of course xiong lah....all combat vocations xiong what.
I was CBRD for NS days...yup had a fun time. CBRD spec quite important in leading the section..hope you up to it
