hey guys
just want to know your opinions, im 16 this year and will be taking my O lvls this year. I planned to apply for the Joint Poly SAF Diploma Scheme when i gained admission to a poly. just to make it clear, I am not attracted to the money offered by the scheme. I guess that I just have a passion for it?
would like to hear about your opinions
thanks for all replies
best regards
btw i am aiming to be on the combat vocations
Which combat vocation are you interested in? Most people would feel that you either be an officer or you don't sign on with the army.
Regarding passion, its best you wait till you are in NS before you think again whether you still have the passion for the job once you know all the bad and cockup things that happens in SAF. Most people loss their passion during NS so be cautioned.
As always, the answer everyone will reply to you wisely is...
"Wait till you enlist into BMT 1st before making any decision, you haven't even experience what NS is all about yet..."
Please read here:
Thoughts on Sign On B4 Enlist: www.sgforums.com/forums/1390/topics/317284
You'll still get a sign on bounty ($25000 last I heard for combat vocation 6 year contract) if u sign on after you enlist, which is recommended. Like what everyone says, most people lose their passion after they enlist as they found out SAF is not as rosy as it seems.
So if you qualify for OCS, all the better, you can sign on as an officer then. Cos with JPDS you're limited to just being a spec, and even if you do well enough to convert to an officer I doubt SAF will allow it since they have already invested money into you since your poly days. SAF is that inflexible
So after enlistment, if you still like what you're doing then by all means go ahead. The only thing you'll lose by not signing on to JPDS scheme is probably the school fees which SAF offers to pay and and the bonus for passing each semester.
But since you're not into it for the money, doesn't hurt waiting 3 more years, SAF will still be around then.
p.s I myself am considering signing on too, btw I've already finished my 2 years and I'm still hesitant about it.
im interested in being in the guards or infantry.
i know it is very siong and will also be very tough, that's why i am thinking of signing on. just up for the challenge
aniwaes thanks for all the replies guys, appreciate it alots:D

Thanks for all the replies anywaes
u think everyday army life is like the tv commercial so exciting lah...
bullshit lah... take a few weeks just to shoot that garang 20 seconds advertisement...
never mind... u want to sell ur soul to the devil for 5 years, go ahead...
when everybody ORD within 2 years, u r just another sergeant (at most promoted till 1SG rank at the end of 5 years contract). and then if ur performance appraisal no good, u will not be offered the 2nd contract (contract till warrant officer rank) , u then lan lan suck thumb, and be given a handshake and asked to leave...
thenafter u go out working in civilian, that regular army experience is not counted as working experience at all... means ur working experience is zero... the same as those recent fresh out of school graduates...
no rednano i do not think that army life is like the tv comercial anyways thks for your opinion will take it to consideration
i was actually thinking of furthering my studies after the 5 year stint go overseas to my dad's
thks for all the replies

can reach staff bah.... depending on performance.
why army working experience no applying in working life?
u bring rifle to work in a commerical office building?
u do guard duty in the night at the office in a typical office job?
u camo on in the business office?
u set up basha in the business office?

then it would be strongly advised to just serve ur 2 years full time, and go further ur studies at university level.
no use wasting the additional 3 years bonded by the contract, u will just be considered another farmer in the eyes of saf...
