Medics FAQ Expired Thread:

i'm a combat medic (although not combat fit anymore)
no a single one in the whole course then was colourblind
haha. I'm asking this because my cousin who's a combat medic (C9L1) told me that during his course everyone was colorblind (laughs) and when he's posted to his unit, only 1 medic wasn't colorblind (LOL).
Combat medic has to bear arms right? What if I'm excused from firing? lol.
excused?
dunno.. in my unit, the deadliest people with rifles were medics.. we were all marksmen
that is the biggest bullcrap i ever heard, i am surprise they let colour blind people become medic, i mean everyone knows pink=20g green=18g grey=16g hahaha
ok bad example, still, i think the capability to differentiate colour is essential for a medic lei
haha that's why i started this thread. I was just chit-chatting abt NS with my cousin and he was asking me abt posting so I told him i was waiting for mine. I told him that since I'm pes C1 I'll most likely be getting some combat vocations like medic and he told me an interesting fact that his entire coursemates were all colorblind HAHA! So I was wondering...is it SAF that shortlists colorblind dudes or is it just a pure coincidence? LOL

funny leh... c2 and c9 medics are should be service medics... not combat medics...
no sure. when i asked him he said he voiced out to the OC and they will revocate him to service... haha. but the thing is, does colorblindness got to do with medics?? no right? lol
Colorblindness can be medic lah, I one of them...I guess the problem u may encounter is the dip stick test.
haha. I'm actually interested in being a medic except the part where i poke myself (I'm terrified of blood) and the 'combat' part since i'm excused from firing haha....

Combat medic training no firing......but regarding poking one another, it's part of training including drawing blood.
would u happen to know if the medics are ORDing in march cos our posting is tomorrow HAHA
there will always be people ording in the quarters of the year due to the bmt intakes.

Nope...but even u got posted to SMTI, you'll only be a medic in May...which you can be posted anywhere....from SIR, Armour, Engineer, Guards........even RSAF.
haha cool. do they usually give to pes C or B? I heard that they'll cure my fear of blood if i'm in! Is that true?? :D

Well I don't think there's a cure for fear of blood. But the more you see, you get used to it..especially in a medical centre, sure got draw blood ...in fact some even have it every day.
but i sometimes puke at the sight of it. :S

Don't worry, during my course some said they are afraid with the sight of blood but still survived the training. Well what make you so sure you'll get into combat medic course.
Is it true those serving NS as combat medic or service medic will have an easier time in the nursing profession?
I understand that they will be able to become nurse in other countries esp Australia where nurses are in great demand esp medic certificate is highly valued.

I'm not sure abt that but I expect you have a easier time if u study for a nursing degree. But during my time, there's a trainee in my course had a diploma in nursing.
yay i got posted to service medics! :) May i ask any current medics how long is the course, can i take leave during the course, how many poking of IVs (lol), and where would i be posted after the course? (The possible locations)
THANKS! :) The medic thread is locked so i had to post here haha
my medic friend aga aga briefed me abt it b4... so roughly remembered some...
course is about 7 to 8 weeks.
IV is minimum 10...
usually service medics r posted to 8-5 camps... such as formation HQs...
haha. Actually it's just the IV that puts me off (afraid of blood). But I'm looking forward to being a medic. Wot's the diff b/w service and combat (during the course)? Field camps? lol.
is it true that every medic will have IV scars????? :( lol

service is more on medical centre service...no field camp but mind you in reality, if a medical cover need you to cover outfield training u also have to go.
so usually after course is 8-5? is it true that we'll have IV scarring? damn.
