"Normally regulars <SOF> are commando or diver first before they "upgrade" to SOF." --> Would this be better?
Common sense!
I meant people who cant wait to ORD would not sign on SOF. Obvious.
Only peoople who like military life, saddist, like being torture, running around, get dirty, muddy, wet and hungry for 1 month, would be interested to sign on SOF.
In order to be qualified and eventually make it, only commando and diver foundation training BMT (mono intake) would have make you FITenough. Even footman training is considered very slack compare to these vocations. Normal people cannot become extremely fit, suddenly over 3 months. Eventually you would drop out. And your physical must be there, better than average, before you take the training. They would expect your 2.4 km to be less than 8 mins on the first day.
So eventually most SOF members come from commando or diver background. But of course, they take in people from all units. And whether you can make it eventually is another thing. Good Luck.
i saw part of the selection process, saw them eating mud previously cover with the sea.
its insane! and theres an ambulance following behind at all times.
so you can imagine the craziness.

This is what I meant by not too "smart" to join SOF. If one starting asking WHY, HOW, WHAT?, then no point.

you got a point. then again, if he can see that its all for survival and faith from the country that these are the people that will go all lengths in completing not just a normal but high risk and tough missions.
wanna eat mud or wanna die?
so if i join, is military for life?(good career move?) or how long does it take to officially become one and whats the minimum time inside?
Andwhat do u mean eat mud? where did u see the selection process?
And is it good inside once u've joinned? what is it like? or what do u think its like?and ..umm....ah, what the hell.. is it badass?
whats the allowence like?
and lastly...will i be fucked ofr life if i join?
wait, theres more! is there a chance i'll be deployed on combat mission considering world events now and in the future?
Yeh, i know, lots of questions. sorry, can't help it.
thanks
M@nvvhore, so what vocation are you serving in currently? Are you in a combat unit?
I think if you're genuinely interested in becoming an SOF trooper, you should see if you have a chance to speak to some of the members. I guess you can show up at their SAF day booth or something.
But remember, the military is a career. You don't join for fun, and you must prepare to make it a life long career. Also, are you a spec or an officer? Officers rotate out of SOF more frequently than enlisted men, so that's something else to consider.
In any case, don't be motivated by all the stuff you see in movies. It's a physically and mentally demanding profession, and your life is on the line when your country demands it. If you just want to be a "badass" like the guys in the movies, then the world's safer if you're not trying out for the SOF.
Military pay generally isn't going to be as good as if you graduate from university and have a white collar job. People don't do it for the money.
I'd definitely say give yourself a little more time in the army to see if you like the regimented lifestyle.
sorry guys to dissapoint, i forgot to tell u guys till i read ur last post boomslang. im NOT in NS yet, im 16. so a couple more years. but i would like just to have some background knowledge so i can consider(or they can consider me). No im not doing it to be badass, ive always wanted to be in special forces. But i just wanna know, are these guys maniacs, faggots, reasonable people, dickheads, superhuman or just ordinary people with alot more mental *points at temple* up here. And super fit. Also, is it worth it?Someone please tell me how long it takes to qualify as a SOF trooper. I was planning to do some years in military - like finish NS, go to uni then come back try to get into SOF? Du u guys think i could get a white collar job after this if i server for a few yrs?
And a childish question. Are there snipers in the SOF? like in the SOF, can u go for a sniper course? like for example, SEAL sniper, Delta force sniper... do the SOF train their own snipers?
thanks

i suggest you wait till you get enlisted and try the life as a green soldier then make your comments cos being in special forces doesnt always mean wearing black kit and storm buildings everyday. There will be still jungle training etc to do. There are times you also have to do mundane military tasks and also endure everyday army bullshit. There are guys i know who are fit and have the could do everything the army ask to do, but they hated the bullshit and would not signed on even if their lifes depend on it.(Myself included )
Also its not all about physical brawn and able to stand hardship and pain. You still have to be able to grasp diving physics and calculations for demolitions. If you dont have the aptitude for it, you will never get selected.
For a person who claim interest in the unit, you lack thinking. if a green infantry unit could have snipers, why shouldnt a specialised unit have snipers? Anyway i am not here to flame, but your posts just screamed of fanboy.
ok, why specialist should have snipers? well, i can think of loads of reasons. if the SOF was say...um..deployed somewhere. but they needed snipers. well, instead of carting a ggroup of green snipers, they use SOF snipers, which 1) doesnt involve the whole army then and 2) adds for morale and much better team work for theres a higher chance that they will know each other. ANd if they were deployed somewhere that they needed their expertise in so and so AND they needed snipers, well, the snipers will be struggling cause they didnt have the same trainning as the rest. I mean snipers that could of in trouble, or the situation need be, could cut their losses and join the rest of the team. The SAS do this. BTW most special forces of the world eg. SAS, delta, SEALs, Green berets, GIGN, GSG9 etc trian their OWN snipers so i cant see why SOF dont either. major disadvantage. So no i dont lack thinking.
And i know you need thinking and smarts.Thats why theres SELECTION and Thats why i always facinated with Special forces. These guys hve to be both mentally and physically tough and both smart and atheletic- i wanted to see if i could take that trainning and abuse myself. Ok, i dont wanna be flamed or seen as just a dickhead but u know, i hope u guys understand. i know you have to be tough and i could be the one that goes home crying to mummy or i could be the one that excells. i know and the reason why i brought up snipers was becuase i recently saw a documentary on utube bout the history of snipers and they a few days back, wached Jarhead. so yeh...kinda got me hooked. but im not the kinda guy that would jump around pretending to be a sniper in my undies.

Rubbish.
Don't give me cock-and-bull stories about "common sense" when you simply have no idea what you're talking about. For example, you didn't know that the 1993 cohort that passed selection was from a range of different formations, did you? You didn't know that many of the guys who sign up for selection would only consider signing on if they passed selection, did you?
Were you ever part of the Commando formation? How much time have you spent at Hendon Camp? Apart from one or two random encounters with SOF guys, what do you base your opinions on? "Common sense"?
If you don't know facts, please be honest and stop trying to confuse people with stories that you're making up.
M@nvvhore <-- By asking funny questions, I really know that you have no idea what is military life like.
One must be very STUIPD in order not to feel uncomfortable in the army.
If one can go to Uni and be a White Collar then one would NEVER sign on as a SOF.
If one tell me that he sign on, I already roughly know what is his intellect level is.
One have to be sufficiently intellectually handicapped into sign on as troopers.
How to explain to you? Just enlisted in the army first and you would know. It is the bullshit that they hate. So called "Mental training". Physical Training is never a issue for me, the rest are very simple but there are "THE CERTAIN THINGS" that I hate.
May be some kind soul would like enlighten this poor guy?

Just one thing to add - the nature of the training certainly increases your chances of being involved in a BOI at some point or other. Not giving away too many details, but try picturing your being investigated when a trainee dies under your charge, and consider carefully if your career plan accommodates for that.

More rubbish. The kid doesn't know all that much yet, so could you please, please, pretty please with sugar on top stop trying to confuse him with bullshit?
The current SOF commander was from my batch in 1CDO. He has a degree and could more than easily find a white collar job, but he chose to come back and serve. I personally know a number of ex-SOF NCOs who finished their contracts and are making pretty good money in white-collar jobs now. Just because they choose to join SOF doesn't mean that they don't have any other options.
Originally posted by Lokey:If one tell me that he sign on, I already roughly know what is his intellect level is.
Hmm. Just a randomly-picked example is my former company 2ic, BG Phillip Lim, graduate of Sandhurst and an MSc from MIT. Yeah, pretty dumb.
With all the crap you're spinning here, it's pretty obvious that we're going to need a micrometer to measure your level of intellect.
bro..ur feeding the troll with "brittle" info
wait wait, im getting confused. ok, i did say some childish things but am i the guy whos the dickhead right now? whos scolding who?

Kid, not wanting to dampen your enthusiasm or anything, but seriously.....
Focus on your O Levels, followed by your A Levels, and then go and do your BMT.
Then and only then should you seriously start to think whether or not the army life is for you. I have always advised people to do BMT first before deciding whether or not to sign on.
I'm not trying to be cynical, but really, we've all seen far too many cases of super gung-ho kids wanting to be SOF/NDU/CDO or what have you, only to cry for mommy during BMT. (If it makes you better, there are also cases that work in the totally opposite direction).
Jarhead and documentaries are no substitute for actual experience. No joke.

Just stand next to Lokey - you'll look like a bloomin' genius.
Humm, I think I am talking about Trooper = Specialist = MEN, those people whose rank is not on shoulder.
Officer go through OCS ... is an another path ...
You are talking about an SAF scholar, which is a total different story.
"The current SOF commander was from my batch in 1CDO." <-- is a commando background, right?
Anyway the two guys you have mentioned I know them very well, and they sure know me, well. Nice guys for me. But dont know about you.
AND I am pretty SURE I REALLY know the SOF guy very well. AND the boss have treat me WELL also. BUT I really hate them, because THEY ARE EXTRA WORK for me. NO CHOICE. SAF. OK, they know their stuff.
M@nvvhore <-- If you are talking about officer, SAF scholar level then it is a total different story. The GAME is different. What is your education level?

So it looks like I must spoon feed you like a big baby.
NCO=specialist. Get it? Was the current SOF commander the only example I provided? Or are you just trying to throw smoke as you always do?
You know the SOF guy (singular) very well. Hell, you may even know two.
That doesn't mean you know how it goes in SOF. I ask again: were you at Hendon Camp? If so, how much time did you spend there and in capacity?
I suggest you sit quietly by the side and let the guys who know what they're talking about do the talking. Stop trying to impress 16-year-old boys with your bullshit.
Originally posted by Lokey:If one tell me that he sign on, I already roughly know what is his intellect level is.
Did you mention scholars or officers here? No. Now you're trying to change your story and exclude officers, scholars and what not. Same old gutless shit.
16 year old want to sign on SOF? I think fly kite better...

thats what i am trying to imply... hey i wanna screw Angelina Jolie, but everyone knows its impossible. Talking and actual attempt is two different things.
Watching movies does not really gives you a lowdown to army life...they just skimmed through the daily bullshit and sorts. And believe me there are people in the army who prioritise bullshit than actual soldiering...
Hey cool it guys! Lets not get into the whose cock is bigger or knows more cock than others!

It's not a question of who knows more cock. It's a question of how much misleading bullshit this asshole's flooding the thread with.
And what, precisely, are you saying about watches?

well you know about diving watches and its owners...
About the misleading bullshit, only those who are in the know have the info, and if ithe person does not need to know, he doesnt.
i had an ATGM coursemate who is are with "them" and he does not go around talking about it. And If he didnt ask any questions during the course, i would have thought he was mute....very quiet guy.
