I'm currently a medic trainee in BMC at nee soon camp. I have some serious financial and family issues as I'm the only breadwinner of my family due to my dad's death last year. I could support my family in the past by giving tuition but now, as my course requires me to stay-in, I cannot find the time to take care of my family and now has to survive on $450 a month, which is nigh impossible considering I still have 2 more younger siblings. I've already talked to one of the commanders there but he said that it was impossible for him to OOC me or help me to revocate to a stay-out vocation. Can anyone advise me on who I should go to for help? Currently I'm surviving because my relatives have been helping me but for how long can they offer this help? If there's really no way around this, how is my family going to survive for the next 1yr 7mths?
how old are your siblings?
if your family income is low, try to apply for those bursaries
Define what position is that "one of the commanders". You need to speak to the correct person. If the commander at the that particular level is unable to help, u might want to try going one level higher ...
You a just a trainee at the moment. Once you finish your training and posted to unit, you might be 8-5 so don't worry so much now since the course should be over soon. When you are posted to your actual unit then speak to your superiors there.
almost impossible, there is this SAF rule which states Full Time NS men (which is those serving 2 years one or sign on ones) are not allowed to have another job outside of it, legally speaking. So even if your 8-5 you cant get a job legally speaking, unless they wanna bend or break the rules for an exceptional case then good luck to you !!
Sign on with the army

Generally it is illegal to work outside, but it is also mainly dependent on TS's direct superiors; whether they are willing to bend the rules a bit for him.
Of course, if they are willing to help the TS out, it will be wise for the TS to keep his mouth zipped over such things.
TS should take 8800's suggestion into consideration. Of course, he will have to give up all future aspirations which he might have, but here is when he will have to weigh his future and his family, and decide which is more important.

You are not allowed to take any job legally but tuition jobs are not exactly really considered proper jobs since there is no proper record, no CPF etc so it isn't exactly easy to catch and charge some1 for teaching tuition.
I've known quite a number of friends who teach tuition while in NS and 1 of them even manage to earn over 1.5k a month just on tuition alone but he has 3-4 students all JC level and its tough having to rush for tuition after camp and have your weekends burn teaching etc.

Yes...that's a good option
Personally i against signing on for money if your passion is not there. Military work is not for everyone even if the lump sum u do get etc is a decent sum of money.

Imagine people like you actually have to support their family in the past with lesser allowance than you have.
SIGN ON,,,,,,FIRST TELL YER CO BOUT YER PROBLEM......IF HE IS OK.YA NEED TO SIGN ON AS YER SITUATION IS DIFFERENT NOW.CONTRACTS RANGE FROM 4 YEARS ETC,,,,,MAKE SURE YA SIGN ON IN SAFE VOCATION AS U ARE SOLE BREADWINNER....
SPORE IS NOT A CHEAP P;LACE TO BE IN............AND WITH CHINAMEN N FOREIGNERS ETC INTO SPORE,,,,U MIGHT NOT GET A DECENT JOB EVEN AFTER NS.
DO WHICHEVER IS MORE IMPORTANT TO SURVIVE.
REMEMBER,,,,CHOOSE SAFEST VOCATION. IN MILITARY.......OR FORGET BOUT SIGNIN ON.
well there is nothing your commander can do to shift your vocation to another unit. Why dont you sign on?? you get a lump sum of money up front and your pay will be around 2k per month. You can then go for further studies using the army scholarship.. then I think you can sign for 5 years or wat, no necessary your whole life. That way you will have money to help ya family.
Signing on in the army is $$$. If you need $$$, sign on with the army. Easily can get few thous per month.
ya choose safest... choose military police.. very safe..

TS could also try signing on as a medic, given that he is already being trained as one right now. That would also give him a reason to stay in his current vocation.
Apart from the Hardship Grant, the SAF also facilitates NSFs whose families are in financial hardship to apply to the SAF Personnel Services Centre (PSC) for options of temporary assistance grants upon assessment to applications to relief the NSFs' family commitment temporarily for a few months.
NSFs are to approach the Unit S1 Manpower Officer in the S1 Manpower branch for application forms and details.
countary to popular belief, NSFs CAN apply for permission to work part time. just need to apply and have it approved. and if its part time tuition, it is the easist and most common to be approved.
please go find and approach the camp Manpower S1 officer/ chief clerk...
How about calling the SAF hotline? if your PC, CO and S1 refuse to help, you can call the hotline and tell them you really need help. If all else fails you can go to your MP. And when you do that, you can also complain to MP about how your occifers didn't help you and left u in the lurch.
