yes. you are selected for the VA test if you are/have
PES A/B (but usually pes A)
eyesight degree <150 for NDU or <300 for CDO
congratz, enjoy your NS days.
for NDU, draw blood for lab test, check for lung vol, medical history...basically check you are mental and phyiscal able to dive in water.
for commando, humm not so sure, basicaly about the same. Can ask for you if you want.
not everyone get selected for the VA.
if im not wrong, IQ and EQ does play a part too? [assessed during the computerised test in CMPB, which does also determine one's suitability] PES doesnt seem to be that impt, it's the medical records that do matter more.
but so far, the fitness factor doesnt play a big part in the VA? also, if the eligible guy wears specs [below 300 per eye], he will still be in?
if the letter states hendon for the VA, it's quite ok. NDU seems much tougher than CDO.. even better if u live at the eastern part of sg.

I'm quite worried, not because I'm afraid of the challenges ahead, but because of my physical. I'm just almost-fit, some fats here and there. I wonder if my chances of going in will be greatly diminished?
I really hope I can get into commando bmt.

Dont worry, they will trained you. hehehe
My friend say got pull-up, sit up , push-up, some agility test, 12 min run, after these do 300 mcq logic/iq test and an interview. Basically the KEY is after phyiscal exhaustion, can you still think properly? And also do you have the WILL to be a commando?
Personally, I prefer tekong, because it is easier to get to spec or OCS. My tekong BMT 90% went to spec course.
Diver (NDU) is a better vocation then commando , because after NS, you can be a commerical diver, or easily get a diving instructor license. One of the most USEFUL vocation in NS.

Wah, very wayang leh! Does Mediacock know you're available?
It's been dog's ages since I did the VA but the basic idea's still the same. Just go, follow the instructions, do the tests and that's that. The last thing CDOs look for is a hero because garang kings are just hazardous to the men around them.
I wouldn't sweat the fitness issue too much - the army operates on the principle of, "you can be trained". I've seen seriously unfit guys make it to the beret, and I've seen JC sporting heros wash out completely.
If they figure you're going to gut out the training without turning on the waterworks and becoming a blubbering mess, you're off to a good start. If you can follow instructions but at the same time be able to think for yourself, all the better. All they're looking for is someone who can keep his head screwed on right and be competent at a job that can be a trying experience at times.
All the best, Lim. If you do get the beret, give me a holler and I'll have the lads pour you a beer at Club 33.

like Gedanken said, as long as you have the right mentality, you can be trained.
i still remember that singaporean who was sent to green beret training in the US and suffered fractured ribs but made it through the end.

What do you want to know about NDU?
Originally posted by Lokey:What do you want to know about NDU?
ndu? huh? nothing much. MAN is more useful than CDO, Vocation wise also more useful then CDO.
basically, people who help to find bodies/bodies part when someone has drown/murdered in the sea, help to clean the sea mines, propellor. Anti-terroists. Go on-board a suspicious boat. Some unit also have land assault part.
[Their training is not for "Exercise", their professional specialisation is used for REAL work. NOT kidding]
their hobbies is running and swimming. dark tanned and muscular.
must know how to tie the knots and ropes very well.
at the end when ORD, can convert to diving instructor or commerial diver.
get to travel overseas (depends on sub-vocations). has combat and diving allowance.
boss wise, humm I heard their new boss is not so good.
VA? basical medical test to check if you are fit for diving.
Regulars are pretty friendly people.
