Hello all can i ask if there is such thing as excuse reservist or some ways to deal about this because i want to go overseas to work in the future after my ORD so having reservists means i have to come back every now and then which is a bit conflicting with my work. Do anyone has some of the experiences? Thanks in advance...

there's something called exit permit dude .................
but for overseas work, they'll sometimes require you to furnish proof of employment, like employment visa, and letter of employment from your employer, happened to me when I was working overseas ....

mi never go back for reservist for 5 yrs already u say leh?
But what if lets say i have a student visa but i plan to study there in the future, which means i am gong there to study first then after which i find a job there. I do know that i can defer my reservist if im going for studies but after which i have to come back to Singapore. But the issue is if i were to stay there and find a job, is it okay to do that or do i have to come back and let mindef know and will they allow me to do so ?

you need to apply deferment for reservist if you want to study overseas.

After you are done with your studies, you will have to apply for an exit permit again for your overseas work.
You don't have to be physically back unless they ask you, but you will have to send the necessary documents along with your application.
Can i defer 2 times in this case?
first time for 1 or 1 and a half year.
2nd time for 4 years for the degree.
after which i will work there but i will be back and apply the exit permit first.

i need to study the language first before going. I am thinking of france and germany which i have already checked. I need arounr 1 to 1 and a half yr for language studies first. After which i get my degree in the 4yr deferment...

Apply for Disruption.
It should be granted if you can produce evidence that you are studying in an overseas institute, but nothing can be said for sure.
as long as u are away for more than 1 year u have to apply for Exit Permit. apply for Overseas notifications if less than 6 mths trip..
usually they will put u on distruption list if u are away for many years. u will most probably NOT be posted to any reservist unit but on holding list..
But can i get some information from cmpb or mindef just to confirm? As in calling them and ask them if i were to study this and that how should i go about it? Because some times i scared they give the text book answer only when you can actually go by the left...

You can try calling them now, but there is no telling whether the policies will change in the future.
And of course they will give you only the "textbook" answers; you cannot expect them to teach you the 101 methods of "siam", can you?
Going Overseas
Pre-Enlistees
I am a Pre-enlistee. I would like to extend my International passport. Do I need to apply for an Exit Permit first?
You may extend your passport without having to apply for an exit permit. However, you are required to apply for an exit permit if your overseas trip is more than 3 months.
If your passport has already been extended up to 10 years from the date of issue or 5 years for passports issued on or after 1 Apr 2005, you are required to proceed to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to apply for a new passport.

I am a regular serviceman. How do I apply for an exit permit?
You are required to apply for an exit permit if you are remaining overseas for 3 months or longer. You can only apply for the exit permit through the MINDEF Intranet.
However, if you are currently overseas and wish to extend your exit permit, you may submit your application through your Unit / PMC to Exit Permit Office.
NSmen
I am an NSman. I would like to extend my International passport. Do I need to apply for an Exit Permit first?

I am an NSman. How do I apply for disruption for NS if I am staying overseas for a prolonged period?
You can apply for exit permit online. You must obtain your NS unit's/ NSSC's recommendation* prior to your application, if necessary. Disruption will be granted upon approval of application for exit permit.
* Advance notice of 6-12 months is given for ICT. If your National Service training is less than 6 months from the date of application, you are required to seek your NS unit's/NSSC's recommendation for your exit permit/disruption. When the NS unit/NSSC does not agree to the deferment of your ICT, you are required to complete your National Service training before your exit permit/ disruption is approved.
I have applied for an exit permit for going overseas for more than 1 year and it has been approved. Do I still need to apply for disruption from National Service?
Once your exit permit application has been approved, your disruption form national service will be processed simultaneously. Hence it is not necessary to apply to your respective Personnel Management Centre/NSSC/NS units for disruption for National Service.
* A NSman who is granted disruption may not be posted back to his previous unit upon expiry of his disruption.
* A NSman who is granted disruption will complete his training cycle later than his cohort.
* A NSman who is an appointment holder will not receive his National Service Command Allowance or Key Appointment Holder Allowance during the period of disruption
I am going overseas to look for a job. I do not have a documentary proof now. What should I do?
You may leave without an exit permit by informing NS Call Centre* of your overseas trip at 1800-3676767 first. However, you are required to apply for an exit permit through internet, within 6 months from date of departure.
No documentary proof is required for application of exit permit by NSmen. Random verification of proof is only for selected applications.

If you are staying for more than 30 days in Singapore, your exit permit would be invalidated and you would be required to apply for another one when you leave Singapore. This can be done through internet.
If there is a change of my place of employment and I am currently overseas, what should I do?
You are required to apply for a fresh Exit Permit through internet.
I am an NSman. I am holding an Exit Permit for overseas study/employment. As I am back to Singapore for good, what do I need to do with the Exit Permit?
With effect form 1 Aug 2006, NSmen are no longer required to surrender their exit permits. Your exit permit will automatically be invalidated after 30 days upon your return to Singapore. You may be scheduled for NS activities upon invalidation or expiry of your exit permit, whichever is earlier.
For enquiry regarding NS call-ups and deferment, you can call the NS Call Centre at 1800-3676767 (1800-eNSNSNS).
What is the maximum duration of Exit Permit that I can apply for?
An exit permit is normally granted on a yearly basis for overseas employment, permanent residence or training. An exit permit of a maximum of 3 years may be granted for overseas employment or training. If you are studying overseas, an exit permit can be granted for the full duration of your course.
Do I need to amend my Exit Permit if there is a change in destination?
You will need to cancel the current exit permit and re-apply for a new one.

NSmen are required to report for Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS)-reservist training, as scheduled by their National Service Unit. However, under certain circumstances, deferment or disruption from National Service may be granted.
Disruption here refers to 1 year or longer due to overseas commitments.
NSmen can apply for disruption for overseas commitments through their Personnel Management Centres/NSSC/NS Units with the relevant documentary proof. Upon approval, an exit permit will be issued by the Exit Permit Office.
Alternatively, they can also apply for an exit permit at the Exit Permit Office with the relevant documentary proof. Upon approval of the exit permit, their Personnel Management Centres/NSSC/NS units will disrupt them.
Should an NSman been served with a call-up notice, SAF/SPF/SCDF 100, his applications will be first forwarded to the unit for recommendation before an exit permit is issued.

You may be required to submit documentary proof for your e-exit permit (e-EP) application. The e-EP system will prompt you if you are required to submit documentary proof. Once your application is approved, you will be given an e-EP number for reference.
In the event that a bond is required, you are to submit documentary proof of your overseas study status, your parent's employment status and income tax assessment notices for the preceding year to CMPB for preparation of the bond. The exit permit will be issued only after the bond process has been completed.
Exit Permit requirement for Full-time National Serviceman and Regulars (W.E.F. 1 Aug 2006)
If you intend to travel overseas for more than 3 months, you are required to apply for an exit permit. You must obtain approval for overseas leave and ensure that you have not been scheduled any duty during the period of overseas trip, before applying for exit permit through the Internet. Once your application for exit permit is approved, an eEP number will be given to you for reference. No hardcopy exit permit will be issued.
No exit permit is required for Official Duty and overseas travel of less than 3 months.
How to apply for an exit permit
You can apply for an exit permit via the Internet at http://www.ns.sg.
You are not required to submit any documentary proof for your e-exit permit (e-EP) application unless you are randomly selected by the system. Once your application is approved, you will be given an e-EP number for reference.

Notes for Exit Permit (EP) Holders
Under the Enlistment Act (Chapter 93), all Singapore citizens and Permanent Residence aged 13 years and above are required to comply with the exit control regulation. Any person who remains outside Singapore without a valid EP shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding SGD $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years or to both such fine and imprisonment.
Application for renewal of the EP can be made through www.ns.sg up to 2 months before the expiry date. No documentary proof is required except for randomly selected applications that are prompted through the system.
You have been granted an EP under the provisions of the Enlistment (EP) Regulations 1975.
The following are some of the main provisions of the Enlistment (EP) Regulations:-
1. EP must be utilised within 3 months from its effective date. Otherwise, you are required to cancel the EP within 7 days of the expiry of the said period of 3 months.
2. Where an EP has been granted for a course of study, you shall not change your course or place of study without prior approval.
As an EP holder, you must comply with the provisions of the Regulations. Failure to do so is an offence and you shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding SGD $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 1 year or to both such fine and imprisonment.
