Anyone have any idea?
don't think so.
I only saw a sword in one of my officer's house who's a regular...but im not sure if that sword of his is from army or his own collection.
After 9 months OCS will get sword already lah
I see. That sword look cool man
go buy 1 lorrrrr
Every officer will get a sword , but best cadet get the a different one according to my officer neighbour last time, Commandos get a bayonet at the end of 1 year training but it is ceremonial only after that must return to armoury

got sword of honour, sword of merit right?
commandos is stiletto
Can go and buy a samurai sword which cost only $200. Better than suffering 9 months at OCS to get a sword

but can be more also... depending on where you are in OCS. [esp. the length of pro. term for RSAF/RSN vocations]

I thought OCS is 9 months. After that you get posted out to your vocation and than you go for your vocation course like if you are platoon commander than you go for PC course etc..

it isn't sharp enough to cut chicken or steak, and it's not meant to be.

bayonet no big deal. even the infantry boys also have..boys are what the officers call the men cos they are well, younger and the officers feel they're looking after them like lil bros. the one that commandos are given is the stiletto knife, which is NOT a bayonet as per your subject header.

SOH is higher than SOM, and SOM is higher than normal sword. Getting SOH and SOM is no big deal cos it translates to nothing, not as if they get higher NSF/reservist pay
just means they are commissioned by the president lor...
btw the army OCS 9 months package also includes vocational training, which starts at pro term till tri-term. vocation refers to the respective arms of the army such as infantry, armour, signals and so on...
all bmt recruits get a jack knife... platoon best and company best one is called jack knife of honour and merit loh....
are we getting officers who are in there just because of a sword?
is that why so many are sucky leaders?

pride when they post out? haha at least u know u did sth u can be proud of during ur OCS days
I think alot people chiong alot in bmt.slack in ocs haha

Maybe I am sour grapes cos I am not SOM. But I dun see any difference between posting out as an SOM and a normal commissioned officer. also same life in NS. There is A DIFFERENCE, to put it mildly, if you disrupt from OCS delta wing cos you got a SAFOS or OMS (a slightly lower rung civilian version who work in the ministries).

errm..most cadets and officers don't care about the sword. the only people who care about it are non officers . my bro who's had his sword for 8 years didn't even bring his over to his new home when he got married last year.

well, if you can say that, you are def still in bmt.

wrong, OCS is in many ways more strict than BMT, as a cadet... training wise, no way for slacking =.=
