Are you serving NS? Why do you want to know so much when you're a foreigner?
I recently got a letter form the Singapore government saying something about NS. I am a Singapore PR, 17 yrs old and not serving NS. I want to finish my studies before going for it.

1) How long do you have to NS? (Is it 2 yrs or 2 1/2 years?)
2) What are vocations?
3) Are vocations compulsory?
4) When do you have to do "vocation" and how long does it last for?
5) Does your level of education improve life in NS?
6) What is IPPT? When do you have to do it?
7) Are there any consequences if I fail IPPT or any of the tests?
8) Oh wait....... How many tests are there anyway? (A bit of explanation would help)
9) What is ORD?
10)What do you have to do to get disruption? (I'm prepared to do ANYTHING!)
I'm a foreigner and I have read some of the posts but don't know what the hell you guys are writing about. Please refrain from using abbr.!

22) What are vocations?
'Jobs' you do in the army whether as a medic, a infantry soldier, a clerk etc etc
3) Are vocations compulsory?
YES
4) When do you have to do "vocation" and how long does it last for?
You will be assigned your vocation where you will be stuck in till you ORD after you complete the basic military training course in tekong (For JC and poly students).
For those who did not go to JC/poly, they have a higher chance of mono intake which is directly going to their vocation without going through the training in tekong.
5) Does your level of education improve life in NS?
See Qn 4
6) What is IPPT? When do you have to do it?
IPPT is a fitness test and has to be cleared once a year. Those who fail may have to take retest multiple times a year. People who do not pass IPPT will not get their rank promotion.
7) Are there any consequences if I fail IPPT or any of the tests?
See qn 6
8) Oh wait....... How many tests are there anyway? (A bit of explanation would help)
IPPT consist of situps, pull up, shuttle run, standing board jump, 2.4km run
9) What is ORD?
ORD = operational ready date which is the date you finish your 2 yrs service.
10)What do you have to do to get disruption? (I'm prepared to do ANYTHING!)
Disruption is to request for leave from the army to persue higher education ONLY if you are studying with your age cohort. This is normally allowed only closer to the end of your 2 years service.

If you are a PR, i dunno why you call yourself a foreigner.
Somehow your attitude doesn't really makes me feel like answering your questions since it feels like someone who is trying to get information to find excuses and ways out of NS or to slack which is not something i personally am happy about but i'll be kind and ans...
i think TS looking for deferment, not disruption.
but then considering the fact that TS is calling himself a foreigner instead of a singaporean, i don't like his attitude either.
