Honestly speaking it depends on camp to camp. Some camps ( er...hem...Nee Soon ), the lifeguards have a very good life, whereas in some other camps, they are worked half to death ( Toilets cleaning, field cutting, fixing of sports facilities ) and have other "privileges", such as double digit guard duty.
Mine is one of the best , (When compared to most others of course, though if you are to think lifeguard is pure slack, you will be in for nasty surprises) and I have no complaints.
There are quite a number of vocations that have reservist as riflemen so its not too uncommon but i still think life guard main job is slacker than them :p Regarding the sai kang, thats wat u expect to do in the army anyway when they see u having nothing else to do.

I know, I have to tell you though, some camps got cleaners to do everything, and open only once a day, so if there is no unit training, the lifeguard book in at 8, watch tv/ exercise/ study/ sleep, open pool at around 12, close after 1 ~ one and a half hour, repeat above cycle, book out at 5.
Where do you find a vocation like this?

Its often given the impression of the most chiong sua compared to any other vocation so it seems to be the best threat use by tekong specs and officers to get their RECs to buck up and change their attitudes and behaviors.

Well, clerks depend on the integrated information system employed by MINDEF. If the medical condtion of the serviceman is not updated in time for the posting or organisational requirement....thats too bad. At the most, OOT again and wait for a new posting.
Not every system is perfect.

Why be a rifleman when what you are doing is the same as what your sergeant is doing? Might as well go SISPEC in the first place.

The SAF system is never perfect. Even the ES system the logistics use which i'm very familiar with is far from perfection and has too many limitations which cause problems for it users more than help. I can submit a recommendation for improvement to get a reply saying the system was intentionally done this way yet few months later i was told that what i suggested in the past was now a recognised problem and they are working on ways to change it and thats just 1 of the major problems, not all.
However, what i'm surprise with is that people with clear medical problems that were identified already before enlistment could still be given vocations that were totally not suitable for their medical problems. This should not be a case of condition not being updated in time.

rifleman n guards, are lousy unit. under the command of idiots, who make life even harder for them. life sucks in these units.
1. they dont get respect even from their specs.
2. they get wet, dirty and smelly when outfield
3. they have gym, sport complex, where they cannot get to use
4. no freedom and movement, restricted by their specs
5. they need to march
and ....

Its because that they go through alot of shit together, i believe the bond between the people in such units are stronger than those in many others especially those stayout people.
As 1 of those lucky few to stayout during most of my NSF life, i would say i do not have a strong bond with most of my fellow NSFs since we all have a life of our own after bookout without much gatherings or such.

life is important,
love is more value,
but for the sake of freedom, l can discard both.
I adore freedom more, so I like to be a stay out, bondless, slacker, low life, unwanted ...

You know, I have been to 3Guards, Bedok Camp: in their gym, sport stadium, messes, audi, office, medical centre but I never see the men around. They are either sleeping in the bunk or outfield... no life one loh. But I do like their camp and bunk, not too bad.

You serious?! My friend in 3Guardman man , sleep all day until he cannot take it. Really boring. They sleep in the bunk most of the time.
Combat units generally have periods of high activity followed by periods of low activity so this low activity period should only be temporary and not forever.
