chao keng NS i believe not everyone is lucky as me though
The point of it is.... when you apply for scholarships/jobs, etc, you may be required to declare your NS exemption status on the forms at the point of application, along with the reasons.
In all seriousness, an exemption from NS may affect your chances for future employment and academic advancement. No kidding.
And believe me, NS is more than just about handling weapons.

Arms is just a very minor component of NS and everyone do not get sent to NS just for them to get a feel of how it feels like handling arms since even NCC kids can do that in sec sch.

what about polytechnics and private schools?

If you mean as a lecturer yes they might look, if you mean as a student, they won't since NS status is more for employment and not studies cos males who completed NS are supposed to get a slightly higher pay for their 2 yrs of NS.

Will employers check with CMPB for my status whether i did NS or not?

If they want to they can since many employers will check up on your history before they employ you. Some will directly ask you about it as well.

Do you want to do in the 1st place?
arms is only fun when you use it for live firing..eveyrthing else sucks about it..especially after firing..

For NIE, no NS = lesser pay.
There are a couple of things which you will not get if you don't do NS.Whether such things are important is up to you.
1)Higher salary due to NS.
Most jobs in govt sector and some in the pvt sector will give you a higher starting salary(increase of about $300-$500) if you have completed your NS.
2)Tax Relief
Those who have completed their NS will be eligible for yearly NSmen tax relief as stated here:
http://www.iras.gov.sg/irasHome/page04.aspx?id=3380
It is important to note that not serving NS will not adversely affect your chances of getting a job.Like what others say,it might have some effect on chances in getting a govt job but private sector wise, most companies cannot be bothered.Of course,if you plan on taking up uniformed jobs in the SAF/SPF/SCDF,then you should not expect to be accepted at all.You might have to reveal your medical condition in future to your company if they have a policy of providing medical insurance schemes to their employees.A more serious medical condition will usually result in the company having to pay a higher insurance premium and this might cause them to avoid hiring you.
Outside of the working environment, you should be prepared for people asking you as to why you were graded PES F in the first place especially if you don't have any visible physical defects(eg. wheelchair bound) but you will get used to it in time and working adults are usually more mature when approaching such topics, hence you won't have to worry much about them making fun of you.

if goverment say must then must, but it was a shock when the MO say you can choose (not to), and i said i needed time to decide

how many % less?
Originally posted by One Harmonius Blend:how many % less?
Usually a few hundred less. Doubt its a fix % but generally as long as you want to be a public servant, not serving NS will simply put you at a disadvantage.
Do note that if its due to psychological problems that you get PES F, there is a chance NIE might not even accept you depending on the type and severity of your problem.
Considering that you should get PES E even if you serve, just serving it for 2 yrs and get over it would be better than getting PES F and have it affect ur future. Many will say its 2 yrs time wasted but there are many more who mature, grow and learn during their 2 yrs NS.

If it's schizophrenia it would be a big no i suppose?
Originally posted by One Harmonius Blend:If it's schizophrenia it would be a big no i suppose?
I believe so. An easy way to put it would be, if you can't even be a clerk working in an office, how would you be able to handle the stress and work teaching will bring.
Originally posted by One Harmonius Blend:If it's schizophrenia it would be a big no i suppose?
Not really, my previous clerk also have history of schiz.. But he serve also as a clerk, nice fellow. In fact if he does not worked in the medical side no one in the whole unit know he's a schiz case.
As I mentioned in the past, I would not hired someone with Pes F, reason being, "what's seriously so wrong with you that you cannot even function as a clerk."
Originally posted by One Harmonius Blend:Some break, can heckcare, but i think they are very strict when it comes to arms though
Not really, some people are PES E to be kept away from any weapons but they still are ordered to handle firearms.
I ever know of Pes E ppl
who wanted to experience shooting
and opt for live range
and just a 10 mins quick of training
and got 50/56 rounds!!
Amazing right?

Yeah, and declaration of PES E due to mental problems also affecting chances of employment.

some people might have had childhood bouts of cancer that have been in remission for many years.. and that alone puts you in PES F.

Some people will still not hire such people cos insurance coverage is alot higher for such people and most companies do have some form of insurance for their employees.
Seriously last time i got a friend who did not attend NS also...coz he got both a guy and gal sexual productive organ.....u got tat ah?
