Hello all, I will be finishing my second year of University education in may. I have been called up for ICT in June, and much as I am looking forward to meeting my platoon mates, I have been thinking of either applying of the following programmes during the holidays:
-Internship@Gov (get attached to a civil service department for 2 months)
-Vacation Internship Programme (attachment to engineering company, 3 months)
Is it possible to apply for deferment of ICT based on the reasons above? It is not ESSENTIAL for graduation but definitely important to my future career.

Arrangement with Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL)
MINDEF has an existing arrangement with the three local universities (i.e. NUS, NTU and SMU) for undergraduate NSmen who are studying in these universities to be called up for ICT only during specific parts of the university vacations. In turn, the universities will ensure that no academic programmes are scheduled during this period. This arrangement is applicable to undergraduate NSmen in their first three years of studies.
Alert
NSmen pursuing full-time tertiary education are NOT disrupted from NS. They can be called up for NS activities such as ICT, IPPT and mobilisation manning.

was it changed recently or was there all the while?
can still go for internship, but will have to take two weeks out to go ICT. Like as if you were on full time employment, the employer have to let you go for the two weeks. Unlikely deferment will be granted, but no harm trying.
