Hi, when I am PES E9L9 temporary for 1 year for high blood pressure (hypertension), chest pain, and high cholestrol.
If
I still don't manage my body good enough till my health conditions
remain the same unchanged next year's review again, will the temporary
PES extended again?
Are my health conditions manageable with my determination and willpower?
Will my health problems vanished and gone if should I lose weight to keep fit?

When near due expiry for temporary PES, you will be call up for medical review.
Just submit all the newer and latest hospital specialist memos from the next few hospital specialist follow-up appointments.
PES E nowadays are also to serve ICTs as clerk or storeman until MR/ ROD.
Please submit the hospital specialist memo to the camp doctor to assess and process.
As usual, please refer to
this guideline:

What are the changes to your lifestyle, diet and
exercise?
Firstly, you are strongly advised to eat oats (instant/ quick-cook)
as heavy breakfast, and greatly reduce eating fried foods and junk
foods.
Secondly, please start cardio exercising.
Start from light to gradual to moderate.
e.g. brisk walking, then fast walking, then slow jogging, then
jogging/ swimming.
Thirdly, if you drink alcohol/ smoke tobacco, please quit.
It's best that by changing your lifestyle, your BP will gradually
stablise and be within normal range. Doctors advise that to manage
BP effectively, it's optimal to change your lifestyle, next is to
reduce drug dosage, and finally be completely off medicine.
That's why I strongly urge you to eat oats (instant/
quick-cook).
3 big scoops (Chinese soup spoon) into a bowl.
Just add boiling water to 70% full.
Cover the bowl with a plate and wait 10 to 15 minutes.
Add water to 100% full, and consume at lukewarm.
Fast and easy-to-make breakfast.
Never ever skip breakfast.
Start off the day by having a heavy breakfast.
Have lunch at 70% full.
Have dinner at 30% full. If still hungry, eat oats.
If possible, drink Pu'er/ oolong tea
(without sugar) daily.
Why I recommend you this?
My parents have HBP since first known 2 years ago.
And now, their BP is well-maintain with this 1st step in a simple
change in diet/ lifestyle.

Hi eac
Thanks for the prompt reply, I appreciate your help!
Thank you!
Hi Eac,
I have been diagnosed through an MRI with a disc protrusion at the L5 S1 area and a disc bulge at the L4 and L5 area. Would this change my PES status as an NSman? I'm currently PES A. I'm worried that when I go back to Singapore I'll still be called up for combat service and further injure my back.
Thanks in advance
Supported by a hospital specialist memo, you will be within PES C range, and you may request MO for an excuse heavy load.
FYI, PES C2 and below is non-combat fit.

I really appreciate your prompt reply and the help you have been not only to me but to others in this forum.
Cheers!
Hi Eac,
I had a MRI and was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease at L4-5 and L5-S1. There is mild disc bulge at L4-5; whilst at L5-S1 there is loss of disc height, a small posterior annular tear and a diffuse disc bulge contributing to mild left lateral recess stenosis. Would this downgrade my PES status?
Thanks in advance!

Please call 24/7 NS hotline at 1800-3676767 to book a medical review appointment with your camp medical centre.
FYI, PES is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PULHHEEMS.
1) Go to Public Hospital / Private Specialist.
Note: You will be classified as a subsidised patient if your first visit is via:
2) Consult specialist, and
do whatever medical check ups required. E.g. physical
exam, blood test, x-ray, CT scan, MRI scan.
3) Specialist gave a finalised clinical diagnosis.
4) Get the specialist to write you a
memo which is to be given to
SAF MO. Those who can and are willing to spend some
more money can get him/her to write you a specialist report,
which is more precise and detailed.
Note: For not to
waste time and money, please be more direct yet humble. Request the
specialist to write about reviewing of PES and medical
board / anything specific such as any
excuses to your conditions.
5) Book an
medical review appointment using the eHealth module @ www.ns.sg (for NSman
Reservists).
Just go down to your camp medical centre
(for NSFs).
Call CMPB @ 6373 1340 to request another
PES review (for Pre-Enlistees after CMPB
Checkup).
6) Make a trip down to the respective unit camp medical centre. Give the MO whatever supporting documents you have in hand. E.g. Specialist memo/report (most usually the case and highly recommended), x-ray films, CT/MRI scan report, blood investigation lab report... etc.
7) MO will decide whether you are deemed eligible for KIV downgrade, according to the criterias set in the "PES Bible" directive. E.g. Diagnosis, Extent of Diagnosis, Degree of Diagnosis/Injury/Illness/Disease...etc.
8) If deemed so, you will sign an acknowledgement notice of Medical Board, whereby your case statement is prepared for review discussion at the monthly medical board meet (usually at the Formation/Division HQ) with another NSF CPT MO and the Chairman (SAF Regular Medical Doctor of MAJOR rank or above). Your Medical Board result will be post mailed to you by your respective NSHRC (Formation NS Hub).
Time and time again, the questions for Medical Review (Downgrade) is repetitive. Therefore, this serves as a general SOP for Medical Board.
Extract from www.mindef.gov.sg/nsmen:
NSmen must update their NS HRCs if they should
develop any new medical condition or if their existing medical
condition has worsened which might affect their ability to perform
their duties during ICT. Arrangements will then be made for them to
attend a medical review at the SAF medical centre to assess their
fitness for NS.
The NSmen MUST bring along all investigation results and
memorandums from his external physician/specialist during the
medical review. Depending on the outcome of the medical review, the
NSman may be given a medical certificate to defer him from ICT, be
scheduled for a medical board to downgrade him if his medical
condition is significant, or referred to a restructured hospital
for further investigation. In the event that the medical officer
determines that the NSman’s medical condition will not affect his
ability to participate in the ICT, he will allow the NSman to
attend the ICT.
How does an injured serviceman make a claim for the medical costs incurred for service injury?
The PMC (Personnel Management Centre) will issue all serviceman with the
SI (Service Injury) Card if their injuries have been approved as
attributable to service by the Pensions / Awards Officer. The serviceman
must produce this card to be eligible for fully-subsidised medical
treatment at the government / restructed hospitals.
If the SI Card is not produced when seeking treatment, the serviceman
will have to pay for all the medical cost first and seek reimbursement
via the respective PMCs with the following documents:
a. the original medical bills and payment receipts
b. a memorandum from the attending doctor to prove that the treatment received was for his service injury.
The serviceman is required to notify his PMC immediately when he loses
his SI Card. There will be an administrative charge of $15 for each
replacement of lost or defaced SI Card. He will need to make the payment
via MINDEF Cashier / Internet and submit the receipt to the unit PMC
before he will be issued a new SI Card.
While waiting for the SI Card to be issued or replaced, the serviceman
may approach the respective PMCs for the issuance of the SI Memo (a
temporary identification document) for the fully-subsidised medical
treatment.
Hi Eac,
I was diagnosed with patellofemoral pain syndrome, and i was wondering what would normally happen to me now, is it down PES? or recourse next year. As i don't understand when the next BMT PTP batch is being taken in i'm a little lost on when i would have to recourse.
I only found this out after i went through PTP and there was a very hard pain that i couldn't ignore anymore so i went to the MO who then refered me to a specialist.
The specialist was kind enough to write me a memo for my PFPS for me left knee and i was told my the MO that i would get a review of PES only after physio.
I understand that Runners Knee is the same as PFPS ( patellofemoral pain syndrome ) But i've searched the forums and can't really come up with anything. I really do not wish to have a permanent injury due to my negligence on my part and ignoring the pain before it got worse.
Currently i've just OOT'ed after 6 weeks of being inside BMT(PTP) and i'm wondering that if i don't down PES do i have to go through it again? or do you know anyone else whose had something similar to my issue.
Also could i ask, is it the Specialist who must specify that i need a PES review or do i just wait for the MO to decide everything.
Last one, does this mean if i keep on OOT'ing my ORD date is extended past 2 years.
Thanks.
You will ORD as usual per schedule.
Since you have OOC, you will temporary at company line doing miscellaneous things. Please liaise with your PS, PC and OC for any further instructions and news.
Then, you will be posted out to be a temporary clerk/ storeman/ whatever temporary vocation given at any camp. Then seek the S1 Manpower Officer/ Chief Clerk for assistance/ help.
While posted out to any other camp, you will be scheduled by the S1 Manpower Branch for a BMT recourse for your new PES.
E.g. If you are later PES C, you will go for PES C BMT recourse.
Please submit the hospital specialist memo to the camp doctor to assess and process.

Hi eac,
Thanks for the reply.
Hi eac, my specialist wrote a memo two months ago permanently excusing me from boots and medical board review should be considered. But now, after the medical board replied, I am still on the same 84 days excuse boots the MO gave me. Instead of permanently excusing me from boots, the medical board didn't do any changes to my status at all. What should I do next?
Get a strongly-worded specialist memo.

You mean this isn't strong enough?
Not so.
Did not read the usage of stronger words such as seriously consider, ought to, urge to, recommend, further worsen/ aggravate... and so on.
Hi guys im going to enlist this coming August 13th. I am currently in pes c2l9, which i am hoping to up pes. Reason being i wan to experience the normal bmt instead of the modified one which pes c would go through, which i think i am able to.
The reason why i am in pes C is due to an minor laser surgery for my eye i did back in October 2012, which was quite sometime ago. Due to this i cannot have any impact or trauma to my head thus i was given the excuses : excuse contact sports and unarmed combat. Its been quite some time since the surgery which i went for checkups every now and then. Everything is fine, which i thought i would want to try to up pes since i dont think in NS i will be doing anything that would create any form of huge impact on my head. I asked those who served NS and they also thought they did not have any exercises etc that would create impact on their head.
Another reason why im in pes c is due to my hearing(cant hear high frequency if im not wrong) which i am excused from loud noise vocation, explosives and grenades and also loud noise environment. Some of the cases i heard even though they have the same problems and excuses as me but they were still placed in pes B.
I somewhat understand they placed my in pes c as they have to due to my condition, but i just want to try to up pes if possible to experience the pes a/b bmt and so on which i am fit enough to(i dont want to slack my ns life away)
I guess my chance of up pes-ing would be low but i just wanna try, if really i have to stay in pes c i will still do my best in there.
So if i apply for up pes now (which i know is kind of late) would my enlistment date be delayed? im worried that if they delay my enlistment due to having to review my pes but still put me in pes c after the review, which then means i would have delayed my enlistment for nothing.
Or should i apply for up pes when entering the bmt, which at that time i visit the MO?
and after that if i manage to up pes to at least b would i be able to go to the normal bmt recourse?
or would they just put me in pes b without the recourse since i would have completed my pes c bmt?
Thank you for taking time to read this long and whiny post..thank you in advance for the help
You will and must get a hospital specialist to write a specialist memo to verify and certify that you are fit enough and recovery well so as to upgrade PES to combat-fit.
As the saying goes, "No specialist memo, no talk. Got specialist memo, got talk."
