Medical screening is a series of medical tests done at the Medical Classification Centre (MCC) at CMPB (location map).
The objective of these tests is to ascertain your medical condition and accord you a suitable Physical Employment Status (PES). Based on your PES, you will be assigned to a suitable vocation.
Here are the various PES gradings:
Note that if you are given a PES D grading, it means that more time/tests are required to confirm your medical condition. This normally takes about 2-3 months. However, this duration may be longer depending on your medical condition.

Hi! I just saw the specialist and he said that I have anterior shoulder instability. Prior to seeing him, I had 2 episodes whereby my shoulder popped out of place and went back in. He gave me 3 months of excuse upper limb and heavy load.
I would like to know if my medical condition is alarming and is it advisable to continue in combat unit? Is my condition also eligible for down pes? Thanks!
FYI, PES is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PULHHEEMS.
1) Go to Public Hospital / Private Specialist.
Note: You will be classified as a subsidised patient if your first visit is via:
2) Consult specialist, and
do whatever medical check ups required. E.g. physical
exam, blood test, x-ray, CT scan, MRI scan.
3) Specialist gave a finalised clinical diagnosis.
4) Get the specialist to write you a
memo which is to be given to
SAF MO. Those who can and are willing to spend some
more money can get him/her to write you a specialist report,
which is more precise and detailed.
Note: For not to
waste time and money, please be more direct yet humble. Request the
specialist to write about reviewing of PES and medical
board / anything specific such as any
excuses to your conditions.
5) Book an
medical review appointment using the eHealth module @ www.ns.sg (for NSman
Reservists).
Just go down to your camp medical centre
(for NSFs).
Call CMPB @ 6373 1340 to request another
PES review (for Pre-Enlistees after CMPB
Checkup).
6) Make a trip down to the respective unit camp medical centre. Give the MO whatever supporting documents you have in hand. E.g. Specialist memo/report (most usually the case and highly recommended), x-ray films, CT/MRI scan report, blood investigation lab report... etc.
7) MO will decide whether you are deemed eligible for KIV downgrade, according to the criterias set in the "PES Bible" directive. E.g. Diagnosis, Extent of Diagnosis, Degree of Diagnosis/Injury/Illness/Disease...etc.
8) If deemed so, you will sign an acknowledgement notice of Medical Board, whereby your case statement is prepared for review discussion at the monthly medical board meet (usually at the Formation/Division HQ) with another NSF CPT MO and the Chairman (SAF Regular Medical Doctor of MAJOR rank or above). Your Medical Board result will be post mailed to you by your respective NSHRC (Formation NS Hub).
Time and time again, the questions for Medical Review (Downgrade) is repetitive. Therefore, this serves as a general SOP for Medical Board.
Extract from www.mindef.gov.sg/nsmen:
NSmen must update their NS HRCs if they should
develop any new medical condition or if their existing medical
condition has worsened which might affect their ability to perform
their duties during ICT. Arrangements will then be made for them to
attend a medical review at the SAF medical centre to assess their
fitness for NS.
The NSmen MUST bring along all investigation results and
memorandums from his external physician/specialist during the
medical review. Depending on the outcome of the medical review, the
NSman may be given a medical certificate to defer him from ICT, be
scheduled for a medical board to downgrade him if his medical
condition is significant, or referred to a restructured hospital
for further investigation. In the event that the medical officer
determines that the NSman’s medical condition will not affect his
ability to participate in the ICT, he will allow the NSman to
attend the ICT.

Hi guys I need some help on this. I have allergic rhinitis which has caused me to cough incessantly and have a blocked nose for the past few months ever since i enlisted. I have had this problem since young and it has always been controlled using the nasal spray. However, the spray has since failed to have any effect ever since i enlisted. I have consulted my gp who refered me to a specialist who prescribed another nasal spray and antibiotics which likewise did not work... Altogether I have already tried at least 3 different kinds of sprays and went through a few courses of antibiotics but the problem still persists... Its has been affecting my sleep at night as well as doing pt as i will keep coughing nonstop, compounded by the nasal congestion. It had even led to a bad bout of acute sinusitis. I have gotten a specialist memo explaining my conditon which i plan to submit to the mo. What can the mo do to help me with this problem?
Please advice me on this matter thanks

Ah I see. However, the thing is that this is quite conflicting as if I do not get excuse stay-in, I'll suffer from very little restful rest while in camp(my camp has a lot of dust by nature, so its quite impossible to make the bunk a lot less dustier). However, if I do get excuse stay-in, I will need to travel quite far everyday (about 1.5 hours) to camp, and waking up at 5:15am everyday is not sustainable as well. Do you think that there would be any workaround for this? Thanks in advance once again...
But I need to add on that every Mon, Wed and Fri there's HLS, so I'm already very exhausted waking up, but I still have to do them as my PES status is still B at the moment. I'm not sure how long I could last before my body really breaks...

The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) is a
scheme by the Ministry of Health (MOH) that provides accessible and
affordable medical and dental care to Singapore Citizens.
Singapore Citizens of all ages are eligible for CHAS if they meet the following criteria:
• Household monthly income per
person of $1,800 and below; OR
• Annual Value (AV) of residence as
reflected on NRIC of $21,000 and below for households with no
income
Family members (related by blood, marriage and/or legal adoption) living at the same address, as reflected on their NRICs, will need to apply together on one application form. All the family members’ income will contribute towards the household monthly income per person.
Members of the public who are on Public Assistance (PA) scheme do not need to apply as they are already eligible for CHAS.
Household monthly income per person is calculated by taking the total household monthly income divided by the total number of family members living together.
Application
You can pick up a CHAS application form at any Public Hospital,
Polyclinic, Community Centre and Club (CC) or Community Development
Council (CDC). Alternatively, you can download the application form
here. Only one application form is required for each
household.
Please send the completed and signed application form to
P.O. Box 680, Bukit Merah Central Post Office, Singapore
911536, with clear copies of the passports or visit
passes for family members who are foreigners.
Submission of NRIC and birth certificate photocopies for Singapore
Citizens and Permanent Residents are no longer required. If you
have any family members who are foreigners, we would still require
photocopies of their visit pass or passport for
verification purpose. You can continue to use the existing form
marked "Jan 2014" for your application. The new application forms
marked "Apr 2014" reflecting this change in requirement will be
available at a later date.

Hi, about 2.5months ago I signed the perm excuse night-duties medical board form and at the same time I was given excuse night-duties 84days by the MO for the time being due to the reason I'm on antidepressant (Epilim) for my epilepsy condition. I was told that I will be informed by my unit manpower branch after the perm excuse medical boarded but until now there is still no news from them. And furthermore, the excuse status is expiring on the June 2th. Do I need to go back to the MO to sign the medical board form again and extent my excuse to another 3months?
Please go ask the NS unit S1 Manpower Branch and the Medical Centre for further updates.
