Welcome to the best vocation in the SAF.
Unfortunately it is one of the vocation which is near-impossible to attain CFC, since only 2 pool lifeguards have ever done so.
You will go for your 2 weeks lifesaving course at PLC, and then get posted to a swimming pool in one of the camp around SG.
Your life will depend a bit on which camp you are in, how many lifeguards are with you, and who is your boss.
The general thing is that this is a 8 to 5 vocation, so rejoice.
No outfield, no training, no no.4, no camo, book in/out in civi, walk around the camp in lifeguard shirt and short (and maybe even sandals, depend on your camp), this is one of the vocations to die for.
The best camps are nee soon and hendon, if no unit come and train, the lifeguards rot inside aircon room whole day, since there is a fixed pool opening hour.
If you have anything you want to ask about lifeguard, feel free to ask me. I use to be from PLC swimming pool.

I realise that I never answer your questions.
Lifeguard is 8 to 5 even during training period, unless you opt to stay in.
You will usually look after the swimmers during pool opening hours and when units come to use the pool. At 5, you go MIA.
You may need to go outfield or overseas, but most supervisors will "protect" their men and try to push requests from units to go outfield to other lifeguard trained fellows who are not pool lifeguards. I am the one of the few NSF Pool lifeguards ( Note: Pool lifeguard is different from those lifeguard train fellows, it is a vocation ) to go overseas, though all supervisors will not allow their men to do so unless you request for it ( I requested to go overseas. ).
