Hi all, as a student from young, I had encounter a few individuals (Conductors, speakers for workshop) who claimed that they study while in those 2 years and gets a qualification. I think is bachelor degree. Any idea about this?
My best guess is that they took part time degrees? But I thought need attend lessons?
Note: I couldn't really find a forum to post this since its part of education and NS. If I post at the wrong forum, please move this thread.
Thanks.
Hey, I wasn't sure if it was part time degree and you made it into the topic...
Yes its possible but you must make sure that you are a stay-out clerk if not it will be very hard for you to attend lessons and hard to take leave/off for exams/studying/revision.
It all up to how your office operates. Ask your superior for advice if you have this intention.

chances are they are from vocations that allow them to stay out, and that they leave their camp/office around 6 to go for the part-time degree course at night.
Depends on your luck i will say, but clerks that go home at 5pm everyday obviously has that free time to go to night classes
Just curious. Most people who get in Clerk are usually Pes what? and what other criteria?

It's depends but most of the cases are E. But i do noe C9 clerks as well
Check with your superior on this.
Its subjective.
Your immediate superior approve, equals can. If immediate superior says no, means no.
So you need to let your superior know, if not you will never get an answer.

Not necessarily. You can be in a stay-in unit.... But it depends on whether your immediate superior allows you to go for the course or not.
Time-off given if your superior permits.
Pes c1 can also become clerk, i am one of them
I have a colleague doing his part time mechanical engineering degree with NUS. Its 3 times a week, mondays, tuesdays, thursdays, 6-9pm. Its quite siong on him considering our occupation requires lots of unscheduled OT. Imagine the workload, on top of his school work, and lab sessions. Its really tough.
He had his exams recently, had to take almost 2 weeks off, to study, and for the exams. So do consider, that if working class has to compromise so much, serving full time national service isn't going to be easy either.
Just remember: you are an NSF first. National Service Full-Time is exactly what it sounds like.
Your superiors may close one eye to allow you to take external courses, with the proviso that it does not interfere with your duties as an NSF. If your unit is on a lull phase, your supervisors may allow your to attend your course.
However, if your unit decides that it needs you on a particular day, then you have no right to object, even if you happen to have an exam on that day.
So.... if you want to take an external course.... it's at your own risk.
yes, its part-time degree. usually it will take around 2 days a week, 3-4 hour per session.
are you sure you want that? it is a long term commitment, and quite taxing, if you have irregular working hours. even though clerks are supposed to work 8-5, it is not uncommon for you to stay back still 9+pm should your unit need something to be done.
and it would be unfair for your colleagues who have to cover your work for you, should you be allowed to be dismissed early for your studies. might put a strain on your working relationship with your co-workers. and you wouldn't want that, since you will be stuck with the same bunch of people for 2 yrs, and you won't like them giving you hell.

Exceptions may be considered for students who do not meet these deferment cut-off ages, but are able to gain admission into Junior Colleges and Centralised Institutes.
NS liable persons may be granted deferment to pursue GCE 'A' level studies at private schools registered with MOE if they are able to commence their courses before 18 years old as at the date of course commencement.
Persons who have obtained less than 3 H2 passes (excluding Knowledge & Inquiry) or failed in GP in one sitting of the GCE 'A' Level examination will be allowed further deferment to repeat their GCE 'A' Level studies on a full-time basis, subject to one repeat only.
