Hello there,
i have an enquires to ask, i be going for my first overseas ICT on november this year but my only biological sister (not sworn sister or god sister) is getting rom and having wedding dinner when i will be overseas for ICT.
I just want to ask can i be defer? My future brother in law who is an saf pilot said this is a valid reason. I am just not sure as my unit CO is quite stringent.
Anyone of you senior had a similar experience? Thanks for your help

Deferment refers to a postponement of a specific In-Camp Training (ICT)
NSmen from the same unit are called back for ICT at the same time as the SAF operates in cohesive units and it is important to refresh the skills of each NSman and ensure that they operate well as a team. The absence of an NSman from ICT will affect the training and operational readiness of the NSman as well as his unit. For these reasons, MINDEF exercises flexibility in granting deferment but such cases would have to be carefully weighed against the impact on operational readiness.
All NSmen will inevitably have work commitments and it should not be a valid ground for deferment. In general, all NSmen are given ample advance notice of their NS call-ups. This is to allow sufficient time for the NSman to inform his employer as well as to allow the NSman and his employer to make adjustments and reprioritise his work responsibilities during his period of absence from office. The advance notice given serves to minimise the opportunity cost to employers when their employees are called up for NS training.
Nevertheless, unit commanding officers may grant deferment on a case-bycase basis, taking into consideration the training requirements, the NSman's proficiency level, attendance records and past performances.

certificate of death of NSman.
Just put in a proper deferment request. If you want to increase your chances, ask your commander to help you write and endorse a short letter, and submit it together with the deferment request.
Come on... we can't exactly tell you how your CO will react, right?
