Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum, so I need help, cos I've searched everywhere but can't find much information on the topic.
Firstly, I run a freelance online marketing business, doing pretty well, but despite that I felt that my true calling was to serve as an SAF officer.
Recently, I applied for the WSO(C3) officer vocation, and for awhile I did not hear from them.
Get this, I am 25 Chinese, with only A levels (I quit NUS), spent 1 day(more like 6 hours) in prison.
However, just about 2 days ago, I received a call from Air Recruitment, saying that I have been shortlisted for the WSO(C3) officer vocation. They've scheduled me for the Compass test on the 20th August 2010.
What is the compass test all about? Isn't it only meant for pilots? Is there a different set of compass test meant for WSO(C3) officers? Also, what kind of questions do I expect and is there anyway of preparing for it? Is the compass test failure rate high?
Secondly, I've been to OCS Mids Wing as a Midshipman, but subsequently went out-of-course. I'm sure Air Force would have checked up on me before actually asking me to go down for Compass test right?
And what happens if I pass the Compass test? What next? My eyesight is about 600 both eyes, and I'm planning to go for Lasik if I clear Compass test. What do you guys think?
Regards
Bryan9385

Hey Bryan,
Firstly, I've gotta warn you that RSAF's recruitment is a little slow on movement with regards to processing applications/results etc. They receive thousands of applications a week and its up to the NSFs to sort it out for us. So... to everyone else out there, if you really want them to get moving on your application, ring them and provide them your details. If they say to wait for them to get back to you, ring them again a few days later.
If I ain't wrong, the cut-off age is 26. So 25's still okay.
How did your compass test go? By now you'd know if you passed or not righto? I just went for mine this morning. Pretty tough in some instances I'd say, but I'm hoping for the best.
After passing the test, comes the Interview, then contract signing, then aeromedical tests, followed by 9 months of OCS Air Wing for you (:
Don't go for Lasik until you're a confirmed regular. Maybe they'd provide medical leave or subsidy of some sort. If you go for Lasik now your recuperation period (might) coincide with your aeromedical or training etc.
Cheers and all the best!
1) For WSO(C3), after signing of the contract, you will be posted to serve Air Force Service Term in OCS Air Wing for roughly 9 weeks. Then, you will undergo training at Air Force Training Command.
2) You do not have to go to aeromedical unless informed.
3) Do not go for LASIK because of some reasons that I do not know whether I can tell you.
