Hi,
I am a degree holder from a reputable overseas university with double honours in law and business.I have recently returned to Singapore to serve my NS liability.
i was enlisted as Pes B and assigned to complete the standard 9 week BMT. I am currently 2/3 through this BMT and am currently pending a PES downgrade due to the flare up of an old neurological medical problem. The likely downgrade is to C9l9 or E.
Although I am on ATT B and several excuses (outfield, sun exposure, PT) for the rest of my BMT until POP, my PC advises that I will likely be taken to have completed BMT since i have completed 2 out of 3 high key events - Range and Field Camp. Further, an OOT scenario before POP is unlikely as the Medical Board Review is after the POP date. Accordingly a recourse is unnecessary.
My question is this: In the likely event that I do get a downgrade, what will my likely vocation be? Is it true that non-combat degree holders tend to be posted to HQ CMPB or MINDEF as project specialists or project clerks (rather than the usual storeman, clerks etc)
Any input much appreciated.
Nope, if downgraded, your vocation will be more or less the same as other Pes C's vocations.. i dont think they really look at your qualification and post you based on it.
a law degree?????maybe they can post u to be someĀ US equivalent of a JAG officer.....or be posted to the istana to be some AIDE de camp or...............u have neurological problem????
range and field camp are high key????thought it was SOC and IPPT?
As mentioned, you are as likely to go anywhere as everyone. Though it may be a possibility that u could become PA (or the PA of the PA) of a KAH.
And sorry, your degree do not make you anymore special than any other NSFs (just in case, you are going to have that feeling).
Thanks for the replies. They are much appreciated!
To terminator hitman, yes to the best of my understanding live range and field camp are considered high key events in BMTC. An ippt pass/silver is necessary for command school, whereas soc merely hightens your chance to enter command school.
To ts, your degree most probably won't affect your posting, but your OC can affect your posting. If he hates you, good luck.
Your most possible vocation is Admin Support Assist, and it could be at ANY camp.
To others, there is only 3 high key events in BMT, completion of BMT would mean the completion of all 3 events, attending BMT would mean 2 events, failing BMT means 1 or less and requires a recourse.
The 3 events are live range, field camp and IPPT(silver or pass I forgot).
Soc doesn't count.
