I have a friend who is sentenced by SAF Court Martial for drug related offences. He was a repeat offender and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.
Instead of serving his time at SAFDB he was sent to Changi prison and was due to release after two years later.
I hear alot of rumors that in such cases that person would be discharge upon released. Anyone heard before such cases?

The Singapore Director of Prisons in his 1974 news conference said:
"[...] the cane marks are indelible and these will be a source of humiliation to (the prisoners) for the rest of their lives".
Reporting on the news conference, the Straits Times, in an article called Branding the Bad Hats for Life, stated on 13 September 1974:
"The Director of Prisons [...] yesterday gave a graphic, blow-by-blow account of how criminals are caned so they will walk with scarred bottoms for the rest of their lives."
"Jack" and "Peter", both caned in the early 1980s, told the New Paper that the caning had affected them in their life after prison, and how they had to find excuses to explain away the marks.
Men who have been caned are not permitted to serve in the Singapore Armed Forces.

No idea, cannot find anything on that.
There are people who are jailed for a few years who still need to go for NS though.

i think drug addicts don't need cos they scare you pass the drug habit to your campates..
I dont know.
But if like that, then everybody will like to go to jail.
Jail for 2 yr is better than serving 2 yr of ns.

siao.
2 years ns can book out on weekend(if lucky maybe can even get stay out unit), got allowance every month, got 14 days leave a year, can chao keng mc etc.
Only you will think that it is better to go prison and have a criminal record with you forever
ok, meaning that guy who got 2 yr jails and after he release, he still need to serve ns regardless of his age.
Wat crime the criminal did decides whether that person go NS or not, Drug abuse cant NS i think, they cant tahan....
His case is drug abuse do not having caning. I have a friend who also sentence for 3 years by SAF Court. Upon release receive a letter stating that he has outstanding days to clear and when he return to camp, his unit cheif clerk ask him to sign discharge letter. His case was 2 years back. I heard that when you are thrown out of DB to serve penal code you have chances being discharge. They would require to serve urine supervision upon release by CNB also. Can any Chief Clerk verify this?
Don't be a gu niang. If you are thinking of landing yourself in jail deliberately just to escape NS, think again. NS is only 2 years. Criminal record is for life. Do the maths!

So weird. Dont you understand? If some1 can do crazy and funny things, who can put thrust in that person with gun or secret documents. Of course, discharge him lah. Do u think he could have been useful or reliable?

You have no idea how weird these people can be.
And you have also no idea how important logistics is. Keeping track of stores item is not doing sai gang.

I dont think so. Offenders who are send to RTC and Prison, dont get enlisted at all. Because they are probation for 1 to 2 years and they are sent to care center after their terms.
If they do get call back by the SAF, then they are the better ones. But rarely, they are enlisted.
I am absolutely clear about this because my friend's after-care officer has directly instructed him to look for a job and continued his career and life. The ACO is the one who decide their final release, and they usually dont recommend his boys for NS. Anyway, if the boy dont want to do NS, he just need to nag to the ACO. LOL. hahaha.

there was a guy in my army camp who have been to jail before for gang fighting and still he got enlisted to be storeman.
in the army, he awol and got into gang fight outside. he went to jail and also military jail for his awol.
after his release from military jail he went back to his unit to serve his remaining ns time

It depends if he goes to boys home or boys hostel, by legal terms, he dont have a criminal record.
That friend of mine is back in RTC, by the time he is out, he is already 22 years old. Usually these people are overage for enlistment.
Anyway, who cares about these people whether they need to serve NS or not.
I guess it's depend on case to case. Just like the Dave guy who took the SAR 21 out of camp, he was charged in millitary court, will he be discharged from army too? Or the young gang members that killed the polytechnic guy in Pasir Ris a number of them are NSF too....imho, not worth to try such method to get discharged from NS.
