Nowadays I always see the 'My Son Our Army' banners at bus stops, and there are even ads on Facebook. Why are they making it seem as though being a conscript or soldier is very honourable? Seems like something from North Korea right? I don't think that being a soldier is a profession worthy of any pride. It is not a noble job.
it should read as MY PR SON OUR PR ARMY soonz...
hey why not get the foreigners serve the army via business like deals....u can pay them a sum for 2 years...
happy man.....hahah lol
not noble? good son....learn how to lick boots to prepare for enemy rundown and occupation if u have better pride than saving your country and family
Singapore should be like France, have their own paid mercenaries to 'defend' Singapore...France's are called the Foreign Legion, takes in people from all countries with no future in their own countries.Paid them minimum wages, trains them well to do sai kang, chong sua whatever for a minimum contract of 5 years...after that be given French citizenship...they can still carry on if want to. Singapore is surrounded by it's poor neighbours with many wanting to leave for a better lives.lots of refugees too..we can use these ppl to 'defend' us ....i'm sure many will want to do it
then SAF must re-introduce platoons speaking different languages. like the dialect platoons in the 70s. i think this will happen in a few years time anyway.
In the first place, Singapore has already been invaded by foreigners a long time ago. There is nothing to defend at all. In years to come, FT >>>> Singaporeans. Perhaps, we might just employ foreigners as soldiers also.
SAF teaches people to kill, it is a low-life job. It is not a noble job.
Besides, SAF sucks. I cannot believe that people can tolerate to be regular at all. Ten years ago, it sucks due to my partial contribution. Now, it still sucks. For instances, I have applied for medical deferment for my upcoming ICT. The clerk has arranged for a medical review at the medical centre in Jan. But they sent me a message to say my application is unsuccessful yesterday. Super cock up in their administration system.
Dont sign on. Recently, my friend who is a regular. He injured his back during an exercise. SAF just downgrade him to Pes C9L9 and junk him aside. Pay him a few thousand dollars and that's it. There is no coverage for risking life for SAF.
what u exactly mean? downgrade to C2/C9 or E = no more prospects?
For us, to have an army is important.
But it's a chicken n egg problem, economy dun have e talents to drive, how would MINDEF have e $$ to spend on SAF?
Hence to me there's nothing to glorify NS, it's a obligation for our very own survival.

SAF regulars are not covered by outside insurances. A Bangla worker would have been compensated more for a similar incident.
If one is combat fit regular commando, he is downgraded to Pes C9L9, it is equal to the end of his career. He is not good in paperwork, that why he sign on in the first place. So now, what?
but say, assign to other appointments is not a possibility at all?
so in short, aviva assurance is not matchable to other companies? to put things into prespective, those doing chiong sua wont be covered... [according to the terms explained by my insurance advisor when getting health/savings insurance, not aviva btw]

SAF has re-vocated him to desk work, but he does not like it.
sign on for higher pay, zero job satisfaction and zero job security at 40++
most of the regulars i knew during ns regretted signing on. except for those high-flyers and cannot-make-it-in-the-corporate-world types
With more and more foreigners in Singapore, it is becoming meaningless to serve NS.
Defend who?
Aliens?
I predict morale will decline and drop and less and less people would want to serve NS.
Which is probably why more and more propaganda work by SAF to glamourise and promote NS - because they also are aware that morale is dropping. NS is becoming meaningless in a land flooded with aliens.

sif signing on had ever been about defending singapore

some PAP ministers also feel that Singapore is not a country.
If that is the case, at least abolish NS.
Singaporean politics seems to be in a political class of its own as long as we think of it primarily as a country. This is where most people make a mistake.
I have tried to explain that we are different. We are a city. We are not a country. The picture changes radically if we instead think of Singapore as a city. (The Straits Times, 30 Oct 09)

There was a time when people said
That Singapore won't make it
But we did
There was a time when troubles
Seemed too much for us to take
But we did
We built a nation
Strong and free
Reaching out together
For peace and harmonyChorus 1:
This is my country, this is my flag
This is my future, this is my life
This is my family, these are my friends
We are Singapore, Singaporeans
Glad to know all those songs I used to sing in schools were all based on bullshit.
thanks PAP.
You and all your fucking shit.
It is sad that "FT"s try to get their male off springs born in Singapore converted back to their own country of origin.

Reminds me of the guy who asked Goh Chok Tong "what are we defending?"
the trend is like that one...
an good old chinese saying...
"a good man will never be a professional soldier" (hao han bu dan bing)
