First of all, you have to differentiate whether the problem was due to poor constitution or water source.
It cannot be that only the men are coughing and the specs are not.
Any and all reasons are possible. After recovering, recruits don't get it any more cos they have immunity.
I had this stupid cough 8 years ago during BMT. Once out of the camp, during weekend, I did not have the cough. And it did not appear once I POP.
Bacterial polluted water would cause diarrhea, NOT upper respiratory tract infection (URTI).
If it was an chronic infection, it would have persisted over the weekend, and even after POP.
This cough was caused by irritation to dust, from the land reclamation nearby.
Alright, so the cough is due to the sand and not the water? Perhaps it would be better if this could be confirmed by any recruit now who is undergoing BMT and roughly observe if the commanders are affected as well. If they are not, i think it isn't an issue. However if it is, i think this matter should be looked into...
Sad that BMTC is losing its beautiful sea view. No longer a sea front camp.
it's a conspiracy i tell you..
the occifers and specs are trying to poison the recruits!!
they are adding some kind of toxins into the water and taking the antidote in order to tekan the recruits even more!!
WAH!! CONSPIRACY!! DOWN WITH THE MIW!!! DOWN WITH EVERYTHING!! UP WITH THE KUNIANGS!! EVERYONE IS TO BLAME FOR IMAGINARY SHIT!!
I did heard abt it. Actually it's because Tekong has it own PUB reservoir, something abt the processing.
Dunno true or not la

Some recruits are affected by it. Some sgt are
Depends on the wind direction, sometimes it is blowing towards the camp, there is more coughing. Sometimes, it is blowing away, there is less.
It is common sense!!!
Water is something you drink in and not breath in. The water goes into the stomach and get absorbed in the intestines. If there is bacteria it will affect the intestines here, therefore stomach bloatness, stomache and diarrhea.
It is only something air-bornt that can affect the throat and lungs .

During this period, and especially for those wuss who cannot sleep, their body's immune system takes a toll.
When these wuss didnt take care of personal hygiene, eat sufficient fruits and drink water, these conditions will add up to lower the immune system.
So they fall sick lor.
Anybody who cannot sleep, their body takes a toll. Anybody who never take care of personal hygiene, their body takes a toll. Sounds like tekong really f*cked you up to make you think going through it is a big deal.
Also, tekong water does contain alot of microbes. While I was there, at least twice a year -pipes had to be repaired. Asked around what happened, sewage pipe leaking into main reservoir pipe.
So yeah, wuss, what's your point? Do you DARE say you did not ONCE fall sick in Tekong? Tsk, tsk.
