SINGAPORE: A 49—year—old Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman from Air Defence and Operations Command collapsed at 9.11am on Saturday during his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) at Tengah Air Base (TAB).
Major (MAJ) Toh Tze Wah Edi, an Air Warfare Officer, was at the halfway mark of the 2.4km run when he collapsed.
An SAF medic on site evacuated MAJ Toh via a safety vehicle to the TAB Medical Centre where an SAF doctor attended to him.
MAJ Toh was sent via an ambulance to the National University Hospital (NUH) at 9.19am.
The SAF doctor and medic continued their attempts to resuscitate MAJ Toh in the ambulance.
MAJ Toh arrived at NUH at 9.44am and was pronounced dead at 10.24am at NUH.
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late MAJ Toh.
MINDEF is assisting the family in their time of grief and is investigating the incident.
Commander Air Surveillance and Control Group Colonel Gan Siow Huang said: "MAJ Edi Toh has contributed 29 years of service to the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).
"He was highly regarded as a professional officer in the RSAF.
"A dedicated instructor for a significant part of his career, many of his trainees remember him fondly and are grateful to Edi for making a difference to their careers as Air Defence Controllers.
"His demise is a tragic loss to the organisation, and our hearts go out to his family".

Haix 49 liao still take ippt
Life is so fragile.
Morning 5.00am get up, brush teeth, wash face, dress up, have breakfast, get to base, talk joke with men, alive breathing thinking, then stillness.
serve him right!
his kids can say: My dad died honorably for his country, doing ippt.
I guess they have to perform more medical check up on the regulars to prevent death.
Maybe organise some compulsory PT lesson every week for these regulars so that they are forced to work out.
No point training last minute for IPPT.
Was he forced to push himself by his superiors? (eg; "no ippt pass, no promotion")
Seems like it is, 49yo still a major....
To all those haven't enlist into NS, this is army culture. As long as you don't push yourself to the MAX, they will deem you as "slacker", not putting in effort...
But the problem they didn't realise is, when we push to the MAX, we run risk of pushing to DEATH!!!
