Hi, I have always loved the military and was thinking of rejoining.
I was a BMTC officer previously in NS and discharged in 2006. I regret not joining before as I wanted to explore my options. Now I want to sign on.
However, I only possess A lvls.. Did not complete private degree course due to personal issues. Dun really anything going on for me right now.
I would like some serious advice please.. Is it too late at age 26?.. How will I be assigned?.. What area should I join should I choose to. Any people u know did the same thing? And any other relevant advice would be nice.
(Unhelpful advice pls kp to urself ... thz)
No, it is not too late to join at age 26.
You will be assigned as how SAF needs you. May be back to BTMC as officer again, or may be in Gombak tomolo.
You dont really get to choose the area you are in as you are in the "training" line.
(I dont like SAF officer/regular any way, especially BTMC officer)
BMTC officer are considered low grade (You probably get B/C during your OCS to be posted to BMTC. You dont get to specialised training in other vocation, so you have to undergo the shit (ex: GCC) again if you get to be posted to guards. Support line (ME) you are out as you dont have an engineering diploma/degree. Promotion is also very hard because of the lack of cert.
I suggest you put up the application and see if SAF still wants you. Dont wait.
Actually Nsf officers go by batch.. so most of my batch went Bmtc for NS.. only top ones post to units..
During my time serving my 3 years contract service as an officer in the army (Only Diploma), there already got this saying Diploma officer is only "Farmers".
When I went back for reservist training couple of years back, there got this new saying Diploma officer is now "Fertilizer"
I assuming "A" level is same grade of Diploma so are you sure you want to go back to sign on?

That is what I am saying, you are not the top ones. This implies that I dont think you can make yourself an excellent PC in an infantry unit. You have not much millitary skills at all, you also dont have much literacy skills.
But it is a no choice, choice. It is better to be a farmer/fertilizer than a seated potato at home. At least, you can wave your sword around to tekan new recruits. Being a A level holder, I think sign on is the best pay you can get as an employee. Unless you want to do insurance, property ...
paper qualifications = literacy skills?... for bureaucracy maybe.. I not too much of a fan in this double face world today.
Employers: Degrees does not mean blah blah blah.
To interviewees: What's your education level...
I met my OCS section Commander joining as regular while I was already in service, and in the end, he is happily serving the Army. He is also having 'A'Level.
If you take it as a humble job, and do it as an adventure, I think it is rather rewarding. But if you compare yourself with graduates, and scholars, you will be very sad. So, if you join, stay focus.
@mel.greywolf how old is he now
Hi Why2K,
That was in 1994, he was 25 yrs old, Should be 42 now.
Many of my peers who did not have degree are now Major, some super lucky/good got their LTC. If u r not comparing with those with degree, or under scholarship, life is pretty good. :)
