Hello!
I have almost no idea about NS.. only what I hear from my dad who is outdatedwith the current system.
When I enter NS in 2013, I will have my degree - BA.
How much faster can I get promoted if I do well in NS?
And do I get paid more? or more allowance?
And is it easier to get into OCS? I read one of the stickys up there that 250-500 get into OCS each year.. Anyone have more details about a graduate trying to get into OCS? Chances%?
Also, can you choose what you go into? Army/Navy/Airforce? How many % of people get into each?
Thanks! :)
please go read more information on
www.mindef.gov.sg/imindef/mindef_websites/atozlistings/army/About_BMT.html
yes, when you have at least 'A' level/ polytechnic diploma/ degree and above, you are eligible for command schools. but to qualify and be selected, it is based on your own merits/ performance in BMT, not purely by education qualifications.
for 2 years full-time NS, even if you have a degree, you still can be posted to be a rifleman/ storeman/ clerk/ any other vocation...etc.
for 2 years full-time NS, wages is based on rank, not by education certificates.
and it's they choose, not you choose. you have no rights to be choosy and picky.
Thanks for the reply.
I have read that link but it isn't overly helpful.
Like I said, I know almost nothing about NS.. I'm guessing 'command schools' means OCS?
And what are the wages roughly like for an enlistee? And for an officer?
And do like 80% of the people who do NS get into army? or 60% army or?
please go to iprep.ns.sg and read up more.
it's even better when you also go to www.ns.sg, click on the pre-enlistee tab, and then you go read the Recruits' Handbook with adobe reader/ any .pdf file reader.
the 2 command schools are SCS for sergeant and OCS for officers.
the NS wages table: http://iprep.ns.sg/monthly-allowance.html
i believe your BA is not from local U.
You might not even be consider as a graduate when you enlist.
Awesome! Thanks redrano - those handbooks really help
No it's a degree in New Zealand.. It's interesting every Singaporean in Singapore seems to think degrees overseas don't count, but it does.
Got everything I need to know for now - thanks!

Really. Some degrees from less reputable unis are not recognised.
