Hi everyone, I have ord-ed for almost 10 years and am in the midst of my reservist cycles.
In 2010, I had a sharp pain in my right knee while playing soccer which made me unable to run for that entire evening, walking seemed ok. Since then, I have been experiencing frequent pains whenever I ascend/descend the stairs, walking on slopes, standing during train rides, even standing up from a sitting position. Often, I had to stop exercising temporarily and the pain alleviates by itself in days. Sometimes for no rhyme or reason, even after temporarily stopping all physical activities, the pain just keeps coming back.
Finally late that year I went for a checkup and had an x-ray done which showed that my patella was tilted and was diagnosed as patellofemoral syndrome. Subsequently the MO from my camp downgraded me for a year to C2L2 while I underwent physiotherapy. I have went for numerous sessions since and its not cheap I can tell you that. To date, the situation has remained the same as before, ie. the pain lessens in days but comes back frequently and I realise the pain is worse after work. Perhaps my event intensive job is a problem.
After my review with my specialist, I went back to my MO with a memo requesting for a downgrade from my reservist but was told that my condition does not warrant a downgrade. I seriously am so not looking forward to seeing my specialist next year just to reiterate my condition to the MO for endorsement.
Could anyone advise me on this? Thanks.
For extension/ renewal of the Temporary PES, it is possible with that latest specialist memo.
It is strongly recommended that you should do DIY strengthening exercises at home.

Can't help you on your NS issue but can suggest some temporaryy measures on your pain.
First you can try Celebrex, is anti inflammatory pill to reduce the pain on your knees. But don't use it more than a month because it has very bad side effects - can cause stomach ulcers.
Then move on to taking joint-formula - glucosamine and chondrotin, take it twice a day. Really helps.
See MO, See doctor, See specialist....
We're not doctors...no power to advice you.
It is up to SAF Medical Board to determine what to do with you....
