Hi, I contemplating to sign on, and it's not for money, it's interest/ passion.
Presently, I am only in my 2nd week of BMT (Enhanced Leadership Batch).
Too early to decide yet?
Graduated from NP Diploma in Electronic and Computer Engineering 2012,
Not bad at GPA 3.2, so thinking of study part-time engineering degree (NUS/ NTU/ SIT), if to sign on while on contractual bond.
Some questions here:
1) Let’s say, if I am posted to command schools (OCS/ SCS) after BMT POP, is it better either to sign on there then or only after with a degree after ORD? Which will be a better choice?
2) What SAF career scheme/ vocations are recommended for engineering skills?
For relevant engineering skills, it's Military Domain Experts Scheme (MDES).

Even though I am deciding between the Army/ RSAF vocations, I'd better select a vocation which the engineering skills are not just in the military holding a rifle with camouflaged cream on face, but also can be used later to outside jobs (such as electronics...etc.) as a 2nd career move should I wish to leave after serving my bond.
3) After passing out of OCS/ SCS, can I be able to choose my own vocation/ unit?
If I have NS duties rostered/ the NS unit has outfield exercises, can I still apply for permission/ "off" pass to go to school?
Is it duties above studies that I need to forgo classes to be in the forest jungle/ guard duties?
4) I’m PES B1. Dependable on NS units, what vocations are stay-in after POP?
Can I choose a stay-out 8-5 vocation?
5) Referring to www.mindef.gov.sg/arc, do you think I will qualify for any part-time degree sponsorship?
Thank you in advance for your kind replies,
I'll book in at 8pm on Deepavali.

Engineering and Applied Sciences
Engineering is responsible for a large part of how the world works today, with huge influences in key industries such as transportation, construction and tech. With the advent of renewable energy and green technology, along with other multi- and inter- disciplinary specialisations, Engineering is set to shape the future.
Singapore is set to undergo more change in the next decade than it has in the last, a transformation that will see the integration of Engineering with other growth sectors such as architecture and biomedicine to explore innovative solutions and technologies that improve our way of life and facilitate a more sustainable growth for the country.
The rapidly evolving field of Engineering constantly needs qualified professionals who are able to think, plan, design and communicate in challenging inter-disciplinary endeavours. SIT offers specialisations in Engineering and Applied Sciences that qualify graduates for rewarding opportunities to be at the forefront of the development and application of new technologies.
as long u do not sign on any combat vocations(ever figured why combat regular salary are higher?) , your skills attained in your job in SAF can be transferred to civi world.
what are the Army/RSAF non-combat vocations available which is related to my diploma and the experience can be used in the outside world?
