Hi. i am current a year 1 poly student. i was thinking about signing up for the SAF diploma scholarship. i plan to sign on as an aircraft maintenance engineer. i was just wondering if signing on is worth it? i mean i have to serve additional 3 years in ns. and will those 3 years be considered as work experience?
i got a sispec course mate sign up the SAF-POLY Sponsorship before he enter army flang his 3rd year poly in the end take recuit pay for a few years of his regular live , you can try stay in the RSAF for a few years have enough $ then go part time poly think carefully before you take up sponsorship of any kind
I have checked with FireIce some time ago.
It has something to do with sgforums' formatting.
She had noted of this but can't do anything to this technical problem.
I think it depends on whether you can be accustomed to regimental life. There is relatively more freedom for outside job when compare to signing on.

Hi! You which poly? I also planned to sign on at first as a Military Police / Guards under Army. (Guards damn xiong, I know... at first I cancelled then Guards call me to cmpb & keep psycho me to join )
So guys need serve 5 years ah? Coz the officer told me I only need to serve 4 years. but actually u got advantage leh. Guys need to serve NS (2 years compulsory) and so u serve 3 years extra. I no need NS so I serving 4 years.
Actually i oso v blur... but at last i didnt sign. I worked w SAF for this NDP as a leader and I can tell you, SAF is not organised at all and its like shit. Everything push to other ppl. Esp u sign now oni 3rd sergeant rank and no chance go OCS AT ALL. Got shit ppl push to you u oso must suck it up coz SAF is a hierarchical organisation. Truth be told, w 3rd sergeant rank in SAF u cant really do much, except to take orders from higher-ups (from my understanding).
But if u need $ (like me) or really want a cool job (like me) or really dw deskbound job (like me), maybe can consider signing? Plus poly grads now hard to find jobs and starting pay all ard $1800 - $2000. Join starting pay is $2000++ And when studying they pay for our sch fees and still give $1200 allowance every month plus $10000 sign-on bonus (or isit $25000???) If u do well for semester exams they pay us extra $1000 or so. The $ is actually quite a handsome sum. (depends on what vocation you sign for)
Anything PM me! We can discuss since both of us are in dilemma
Sorry for hijacking the thread. Anyone know if wuming87 and delirious Prince are still around in the forum or ways to get to them? Have some mdes questions to ask them but doesn't seem to be able to reach them. Anyone with info can pm me, thanks a lot!

Better don't sign yet because not everyone is cut out for military career...you will end up regetting when realise you do not like the job and worse still, you have to bear with it because you cannot break the bond...
You can always sign on later after you have enlisted...
Agreed. Military life is really not for everyone. Although the pay is decent and stable, the jobs can be repetitive. It really depends on individuals.
my hubby is a saf regular. he sign on bcos of money. like all nsf's girlfriend, 1st 2.5yrs was tough for me as i dun get to see him often :( life get even tougher for us as his career carrys on. often he will complain how boring his life is.. he always say how he wish he nv sign on. he say he could be some engineer working in MNC. hahahah. as he move on in his army career, he change his vocation to (MP) thinking life wld b better exp for him. :D still the same life he say. very boring, doing so many projects rather than focusing his primary job. get so many arrows n always yes sir to his bosses. Anyw there is good and bad, army can change ppl into better person. :D
thank for pot very good
Hi all! Sorry off track a bit.
Any regulars here / anyone who's going to sign on?
Would like to check if sign on as a specialist and passed out 3sg.
Able to stay out? Or regulars have to stay in or it's optional?
Thanks!
Sign on six years, serve finish, take the money and fuck off, why not? A few of my friends all took this route, all doing well now in private sector.

me too saf career divided into 2 phases 1st 10 yrs specialist phase if u don't make any mistakes / offences ( didn't pass IPPT , got charge , o credit card companies $ etc... ) and preform well your superior will recommend for 2ndphase, 2nd phase is for advance to warrent officer until retire
for 3rd SGT don't even think about staying out ( smell no smoke ), most of the time u will be struck with your men thru out the week doing duty SGT taking men for PT, meals & lessons , doing coy orderly SGT & guard duties , freedom only come after your platoon SGT tour when u go to weapon schools or NSmen camp as instructor
1 pls ask yourself if u are doing it for the $ "DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME" u wouldn't get a single cent of your lump sum if u quit b4 10 yrs contract over
2nd do u like army life from the example above u wouldn't feel happy , i like army life ,i like to stay in camp during weekends , i love to squat behind bushes & prowl in mud , DO u like it ? thats the differences :)
1 more thing 4get to mention would like to recommend a sort clip from youtube named "hentak kaki" it happened to alot of regulars, SAF will not fire u they will makeways for u to leave on your own.
Thanks guys. Still considering whether to sign on as a signal specialist, I'm a signal nsmen so I'm thinking of going back to signal.
Hi varadero! You're ex-regular, do you mind if I ask which vocation are you in and how's the life as a regular? Why do you leave the force...?
Hi guardsmen74, actually I don't hate army, quite like the life of it but just the stay in part abit sian. Thought regulars get to chose To stay in / out. As for the sign on bounty, thought I'll get it once I passed out as a 3sg?
Thanks all all for the advices and information.
hello wayne23 i oso nsman re-enlist after my 1st ICT 2 yrs after i ORD ( find that i like army life during ICT ) ppl will tink our kind is crazy don't bother abt them if u really like army life i will give u a word which i give my men b4 they ORD : " Don't work for the $ , just do what u enjoy n u will stay long in your job n $ will come when u advance in your position."
regarding stay out from my experience there is no staying out all the way from SISPEC to platoon SGT only night-off book in b4 2359hrs. my friend secretly stay out but have to came back camp very early in the morning ( u should know a phase in the army "what ever u do don't get caught" )
as for the $ i got a sum of $ after i sign the contact as engagement bonus the lump sum MINDEF help u do investment ( they claimed get more when contact end / retire ) those seving ard 2000 - 2005 era got a nasty shock , i will not talk anymore
got afew points for u don't be "rambo" take care of your own body if not u will be like WO Lee Teck Hong & me , SAF only cover 1 of my injuries i get in my service after i left the rest only albanian adcent " GOOD LUCK" the other points i update in next few day
