Hello all, I would be enlisting next month and would love to know what will happen in TEKONG. Of course I could read in the NS portal, but reading from people's point of view would be even more great!
Some question I would like to ask!
Should I cut my hair before going in?
I can't swim, will this affect me anyways?
lastly please do share your story hehehe! :D

Here on an island off the coast of Changi, the journey from a
civilian to soldier begins, the symbolic rite of passage from Boys
to Men. Recruits take a Ferry into Pulau Tekong and are enlisted
directly to their respective companies, where they will spend the
next few months training beside their fellow comrades and
commanders .
It is a tough, but rewarding journey, recruits not only learn
military skills, but life skills in the process that will benefit
them many years ahead.
Basic Military Training (BMT) marks the beginning of military life
for all Singaporean males at the age of 18. It is the transition
from fresh-faced teenager to combat soldier.
They learn basic soldiering skills, which include weapon handling,
individual field craft, etc to enhance their survivability in the
battlefield.
Besides the training in basic military skills, Physical Training
(PT) lessons are also conducted to build up the soldiers' physique
and stamina, to instill a firm sense of discipline and teamwork
amongst the soldiers.
Hahaha! Thanks for the reply!
just go in and let them cut la, cheaper.
donno how to swim nvm, they will teach you. When u go tekong, u would rather be a non-swimmer than swimmer.
and lastly, where got time? ORD LOH!!!!!!
Wow, ORD means you're free lol. So you must share with me your stories hahaha! Come on gunner77! And I'm hope you're not an arsenal fan lol. Since they call arsenal a gunner too.

1) let them cut. as if you cut too short will kena, cut too long still needs to cut again.
2) cant swim during BMT, will learn to swim more like playing with water.. swimmer will go swimming army style...
(for me during my time, swimmer during operational phase needs to go combat swim.. like SBO, helmet, rifle with full water bottle go 20lap swim, then proceed to confidence jump and ummediately thread water for 10min) non-swimmer continue to "play water)
Hahah! Thanks newbie! I heard if you can't swim you will not be posted for good unit or something. I might be wrong!
Your ability to swim doesnt affect where you are posted to la. Coz SAF believes in everything can be train. Cannot swim? They train you until u are olympic swimmer.
but army side dont worry, not much on swimming. You kena navy they you can start to worry already.
Go bmt, be low profile. Dont be siao on and wayang. Unless you planning to go OCS. Dont be chao keng also, if not sure kena mark by sergeants. Just be normal, low profile.
NS only, 2 years. Serve and fark off. Along the way, learn new things, make alot of friends(some of them stays as your good friends for life), make mistake just admit it and accept the punishment. Train you to be a man, accept your responsibilities. No more in school already, make mistake push the blame.
Enjoy your bmt. Its one of the phrases in your life you will never forget. All recruits no rank nothing, just follow orders. Wait till you pass out and go into unit. All start to play rank already. Knn.
Good luck begin confine for the first two weekends. That itself is more of a mental torture. That period makes you realise how much you have taken freedom for granted.
Thanks gunner77 for sharing! I will just do my best, i don't want to chao keng. I want to do my best lol, but I very small size so a bit worried lol. Hope that everything goes well hahaha.
Small size big size medium size no need to worry.
All will kena force to help each other one. This is how the army will teach you about brotherhood.
Everytime when the training gets tougher and tougher and you feel like giving up, just turn to left and right look at your fellow brothers. If they are still hanging on and refusing to give up, i dont see why you have to give up. This is how i keep myself going every single day for my BMT.
Remember, tough time dont last, tough man do.
Thanks for the encouraging words gunner77! I will keep your tips in mind and do my best. :D
