7. clothes hanger (no need alot since they will probably want to standardise eventually)*
8. pegs (as many as possible)*
9. lock - usually not number locks as they will require you to pass one set of keys to your buddy
10. slippers*
11. tupperware for food like biscuits, etc.
12. black tape*
13. scissors/ cutter
14. pencil/pen*
15. clear tape
16. perm marker - for writing ur name / 4D number on items
17. snake powder - that is what they would recommend usually; you will get saf powder too.
18. extra batteries for your receiver, torch, etc
19. cloth for cleaning
20. nail cutter*
21. rubber bands (normal and those black thick ones)
22. masking tape
23. coins (for vending machine, payfones)*
24. orange cloth (you will need to get eventually, but you can get it inside too)
25. underwear (more! disposables are usually not recommended)*
26. own clothes for sleeping if u need
27. black string (for various purposes like securing items, tying your ID tag)*
28. small mirror (you can get inside too; for applying camo)
alot of essential outfield items you will pick up and learn after going outfield a few times. for me, my SBO always have these items
1. black rubber bands, big and small*
2. black tape*
3. spare batteries for torchlight*
4. ziploc
5. pen/pencil
6. writing material - the small black book - put inside ziploc*
7. small mirror with camo*
8. 2 x insect repellent tubes*
9. spare black string
10. jackknife*
11. more than one torchlight
12. half gloves
13. mess mug* in plastic bag
14. ear plug and whistle inside whistle pouch*
15. a roll of the cord (... forgot wat its called. anyone?)*
16. compass
17. dummy grenade and magazine
of course during bmt you wont have to have and you are likely not allowed to have certain things u want to get yourself (e.g. own torchlight, compass). this just serves as a guide.
and a standard rule of thumb: always secure all your items! i secure things like the torchlight and even jackknife to my sbo.
in both lists the * items are more important.

not all - the first 28 would be useful for both PTP and BMT though. as mentioned in a PTP thread, PTP is about physical training and adaptation to military life - discipline, lessons, etc. there is no field training involved.Originally posted by shirurinu:Does the 1st list applies for PTP too? but there is no need to fret - they are not those "die die must have" kind of things. if you cant get them now, your bf can either get them at the gift shop there, or u can bring them to him during parents' visiting day. or can always wait till his first bookout. -

Well he might not know what to prepare ma... Its his first time and he dun participate in forums. If i gain more knowledge from here.. i could helped him and make it easier for him... anyway... he'll be in for the 1st 3 weeks... suffering.. hehehe

Is there anyway to train for route march? I like walking but I don't think I can walk long distances with heavy weight on my back because my back, especially my lower back, get tired easily if I carry too heavy and my neck will feel pain.

the first time i did the 4 km route march in bmt, i almost died. but as the training went on, and the combat fitness and endurance built up, it became easy. i was still struggling during the 16 km btw.
so either you may wish to be like me - wait for bmtc training, or you could do it yourself first - walk with loads on. but imo, bmtc's trg is sufficient. -
Going into bmtc sch 1 pes bp, 1.66m, 87kg, heard that training in pes bp require you to reduce 1-2kg per week?? is it true?..alamak 16 wks X 1.5kg(average) = 24kg.
87-24=63kg...alamak just nice only...
1-2kg per week, is it possible?? How tough the training will be ..thks alot in advance. -

Well, although I OOCed from PES BP, I managed to lose around 14 kg before I got posted out.Went in at 80kg, and got out at 66 Kg.Thats approx 1-2 kg per week.And I was one of the few who didn't lose much weight, guess it's cuz I have heavy bones.It can be done.During my time, around Dec2002-Mar2003, the training was quite progressive and not too draining on your body.It may or may not have changed, the latter is more likely.So, keep your chin up and you can do it.

Yep, squash 2 specs during morning 5BX and PT lesson. First I saw my specs flew off then followed by crack sound, I was like Jialat liao cause no spare backup. My advice, if you got spare specs, also bring it along. Buy those specs hangers (or whatever you called them) to secure the specs so that they don't fly off during your training. -

Your Enlistment Day - In-Processing

If you have any medical or related letters, show it to your Platoon Commander during the first 48 hour compulsory interview. He'd most prolly ask you to bring it to Medical Officer for endorsement.
As for what the process will be that day, you go to a building, surrender IC, get a piece of paper + green IC and ID tags. (piece of paper goes to parents).
Then you go auditorium for a rehearsal of the swearing in followed by actual swearing in. Then you go lunch/dinner with parents then you send them off.
From then on, you collect your equipment, then check the equipment, then try it for size. When you happy, sign. Sometimes you sign first then try the size. (see below)
You happy liao and once everybody is happy with their equipment... you all go get new hairstyle ($2). Don't bother getting hair cut outside, Tekong barber says it has to be "approved" by them. quite stupid actually because he will say if trimmer cuts anyhair, he will charge $2, then he will press hard to make sure he cuts some hair.
After new hairstyle it's most probably admin work already. fill up forms, declare drugs abuse, etc etc. You will be briefed on discipline, rules, etc etc.
Equipment to be issued:
WHEN you surrender IC, you will be given a black sling pack.
At the company line (your bunk) you will be issued.
1 field pack,
1 black duffel bag with wheels.
1 helmet + camou net
2 pairs of boots
5 green socks 2 white socks (which you won't get to use in school 2)
5 sets camouflage uniform + sewing kit
1 pair of running shoes
2 t-shirt
2 singlet
2 shorts
1 belt
1 pair of garters
1 jockey cap
1 set if 2 mess tin
1 mess mug
1 green mug
1 set of utensil
1 toothbrush
1 toothpaste
1 soap and soap box
1 dental floss
1 toiletries bag
1 toggle rope
1 webbing (army bra)
2 water bottle + pouches
1 pair ear plugs
2 tin shoe polish + 1 brush
1 jack knife (victorinox)
did i miss anything out?
after 1-2 days, you will be issued
1 or 2 set of camou cream
2 insect repellant (burns)
black rubber bands
1 notebook
1 thermometer
1 Gore-tex jacket (suggest you write name on it, highly priced item as only PES A/B personnel are issued and not replaceable by credit) -
if i have graduation the next day.. can i tell my PS or officer for me to book out? i called my school they say they have wrote into mindef ... and will be able to come out ... but just wan to double comfirm.
i enlist on 17 but graduation on the 18 ? can ? thanks -

i think this is really up to you. as long as your using contacts do not cause inconveniences, does not affect you when you are training, does not cause you to have special requirements, i don't think they will stop you. they probably won't even know you are wearing contacts.Originally posted by tranquilX:ermm... one question...

Wearing specs would be more convenient. No need to wash it everday and when it drop out also much more easier to find.

spec is the best...pls dun forget that u still have field camp..how are u gona clean your contacts?
u have a higher chance of getting eye infection..
n if u are getting spec...get a bottle of anti-fogging spray...useful for your range n SOC... -
