its quite amazing to me now how we could survive wearing the same no. 4 for days during outfield, especially for defense ex when u dig and dig and so sweat like a pig! i guess its conditioning - u jus get used to the uniform clinging onto ur body and the smell of urself and ur buddies.Originally posted by jOhO:well.. mine are/did!!! -

i quite heng... oni sprained my ankle twice and had quite bad footrot for my whole entire ns. -

i only had ringworm. none of my joints were affected at all, even after all those jumps.
then one day (not too long ago) i sprained my knee playing beach volleyball at one of the outings.
sibeh weak man. NS boh tai chi, play volleyball sprain, and quite bad too. getting old liow, it's been er... 7 years since ORD.

There was once i was on 120mm coz with Cdo...than there was a task 4 us 2 do...c who can dig the base plate hole within 1min & i was surprise tat the Cdo said 2 the instructor tat they dunno how 2 dig...my platoon mates & me laugh at them

time for somemore information for those who are enlisting soon
1. the bmt training programme is about 8 weeks, the first 3 of which is confinement. this is not including ptp.
2. SOC timing to pass for bmt : 10:30 mins
3. IPPT: must pass
4. to pass BMT: need to pass IPPT and BTP.
5. BTP: all 100m. cannot remember how many rounds out of how many rounds means pass.
6. even if you get gold for IPPT you wont get the money but you can wear the gold badge
7. things you do during BMT:
a. footdrill
b. quite alot of physical training like swimming
c. field camp
d. m16
e. range
f. various "courses"
g. ippt
h. soc
i. OC evening
j. CO evening ?
k. POP rehearsals
l. route marches
m. sit test
hm.. anymore?
so you can see there are lots of things to do within the short time!
essential things to learn asap when u first go in:
1. tie bootlace
2. do sbo properly - to fit you, tape all loose ends
3. the helmet netting
4. the fullpack - loose straps also.
(always remember to keep your fullpacks clean as u will need to book out with them. not clean means no bookout!)
5. bathing in double quick time/ sharing of shower cubicles
6. use handfone at nite without sergeants knowing
7. call sergeant sergeant, platoon sergeant platoon sergeant, and PC and OC Sir! (and greet them! all of them!)
8. proper pushup
9 admin attire = tshirt (vest) + black shorts; pt attire = singlet + same black shorts. for both white socks to be folded down.
10. smart 4 - DO NOT wear ur jockey cap like a baseball cap! the mouth of the cap should be at eyebrow level. the waist velcros should be done all the way. they prob ask for standing collars. and brush shine the boots. TIP: u will be given 2 pairs of boots: keep one for chiong sua and one for parades and drills and meals. saves quite alot of trouble.
11. wearing helmet - wear until the line infront is at eyebrow level, not too far up your forehead. and DO NOT ever carry your helmet like a vegetable basket!

jus thought of some other things.
some terms to know:
a. reveille - the time to wake up / time to fall in in the morning. the definition is ambiguous and really depends. so have to clarify.
b. lights off - time to turn off all the lights! (sleep or not? hm... )
c. nights off - go out for the night and come back by x time (usually 2359 or something to that effect) - does not really apply to BMTC.
d. nights out - go out for the night and no need come back till next day morning - does not apply to BMTC too!
e. (btw all times go by the 24 hour clock)
f. block leave - a period of time when everyone goes on leave - except for those who kanna confinement (see next); usually occurs after you graduate from POP.
g. confinement - need i explain?
h. late book out / early book in - another form of punishment, self explanatory
i. sign extra - means kanna extra duties, work, etc... does not exactly apply in BMTC
j. RT - remedial training - for those who fail IPPT/ SOC, usually conducted during Saturday afternoons until evenings so u feel the pinch
k. CT/WT - circuit training / weights training - conducted in the wonderful BMTC gym!
l. First parade/ Last parade - the first parade of the day (in BMTC, done around 0700 - 0730 just before the first lesson); the last parade of the day (timing of which is not fixed, and after that it means its free/ busy time - to bathe, brush teeth, wash clothes, eat.................);
m. Water parade - usually conducted during the first, and last parade and whenever required in between. Due to TSR (Training Safety Regulations) requirements, it is not unusual to have water parades even every hour! When you will recite the 7 core values too. (see next)
n. SAF 7 core values - loyalty to country, leadership, discipline, professionalism, fighting spirit, ethics, care for soldiers - you might as well start memorising them now.
o. Show parade - not a standard parade; something you would like to siam if possible; means u have to put on your best smart 4 (ironed with clear visible lines for pants and no creases and no "cock hair") and jockey cap and boots and kanna inspected by your sergeants; form of punishment for untidy attire; remember not to wear your watch!
p. Change parade - something of a relic, though you will hear it being said every now and then; form of punishment where one is expected to change between attires (e.g. smart 4 to admin attire) in incredible timings (e.g. 1 minute?)
q. Turn out - something you definitely want to pray and hope you will never hear; form of punishment / training when you are waken up in the middle of your sleep to do something - usually unpleasant.
r. Standby X - X can really be anything; and when they really want to inspect anything and everything, X = "universe"; but in BMTC X is usually "area" or "bed" or something related.
s. Cat 1 - hooray! all outdoor activities come to a standstill! due to the high incidence of lightning in Singapore (esp. Tekong), TSR states that when there is a Cat 1 situation (with or without rain) all will need to seek shelter; but remember - rain without Cat 1 means training goes on unless otherwise specified!
