Hope to be selected for OCS...
so just one question, will going for PTP adversely affect my chances of getting selected?
I'm training up but asking just in case... My pull-ups need some work but other than that everything else is a "go". -
To all officer wannabes,
when you're in BMT, it's good to want to excel. But please don't wayang.
Just be yourself.
If you are suited to be an officer, then you will be chosen for OCS and from there, prove that you are worthy of a commission.
Sometimes wayang may get you somewhere in BMT, play a lil' politics here and there, and you might get selected for OCS. But tell you, 9.5 months not the same as 2.5 months. Wayang will not get you through OCS easy, for the simple fact that the everything you will go through will test your mettle, in every area. And if you are not up to it, you will suffer. It's as simple as that. And it's even tougher after you pass out from OCS, that's when your responsibilities really begin. Being an officer is not about wearing that rank; the two pieces of cloth you wear on the shoulder will NOT automatically earn you the enduring respect of the men who will depend on you to take care of them. You will be constantly under scrutiny, from your superiors and the men you are leading. You must have the right attitude and disposition, and the ability. They augment each other, but they must add up to make you worthy of holding command.
So guys, just be yourself. If you're officer material, then you will enjoy being an officer. If you are specialist material, and specialists are the backbone of the army, then you are better off being a spec. If you are not chosen for command position, then it's nothing to be ashamed of, you're still serving the country same as the others. It does not mean you are less capable than your friends who're going to OCS or SISPEC, your talents lie elsewhere, and military leadership is a little different from its civilian counterpart. Does not mean you are no good, remember that.
For all yall soon-to-be enlistees, and those in Basic right now, just enjoy your BMT. Make friends, help each other. Don't try to upstage one another. It's not about out-doing the other guy, alright.

Yep yep, being an Officer is more than just commissioning and getting that one black bar. It's about being responsible for what you AND your men do as well.

It would be sad when you can see your guys and you know they are only respecting that 1cm by 4cm patch of black stitching on a piece of woodland cloth and not your ability and your skills because you made a bad leader and have poor empathy.So, be a responsible fellow and do not think respect is entitled.A good officer earns respect and his troops willingly give it to him.A lousy officer gets his respect because the men are obedient to the regimentation and perform self-preservation.If you can settle for being OK, its best not to be a leader.

i've seem OCT OOC, then become 3SG. what a watse...
1 good example is my friend, just about to be commissioned, then OOC, now CPL, hope he get 3SG soon. -

After Tri-Service, i was posted to Air Wing for 8 weeks to learn more about Air Force. From there we were divided in different vocation.
example > Pilot trainee, AOCO or ADAO.
Pro Term >> Posted to diff air bases/Unit For More intense training on the particular weapon.
After POP, u will be attached to the unit till the end of your NS

i guess results DO affect your chances of going into OCS then? i'm still in sec 4, but i wanna aim for either SMS or ATA. is there a higher chance of making it if i go into RJC or HCJC? should i apply before enlisting or just tell your pc or whoever's asking you..
when the pc's asking you whether you wanna be a commander or what do you just say 'yes sir' or is it sort of like an interview where you tell him what you plan to do in the future? -
Which JC you attend doesnt affect whether the army will give you a LSA or ATA, as long as your results are good.
They'll usually have recruitment drives during BMTC where you can express interest to sign up for LSA or ATA. You will then have to go for an interview where they ask you general questions e.g. why do you want to sign on, if you dont get chosen will it affect you badly, etc etc...
When your PC interviews you, he may ask you whether you would want to enter command school. You can give him more than a "yes sir" answer. -

As for SMS and SAFOS scholarship, my OCS PC once said only cadets who obtain at least a B grading during the OCS terms will be considered. I guess the standards for ATA should be lower? Not sure abt the latter.. but the underlying msg is, qualifying for ocs alone is not enough to secure you a SMS scholarship.
Personally if i were you i'd at least wait till i'm enlisted first b4 applying.. cos what makes you think that you'd like army life??

What are the usual A level results of students who have gotten the ATA?

would appreciate if anyone an provide me with info on gettin into OCS... juz finish my A's and will be enlistin into NDU april nxt yr.. would like to noe if there r any extra criterias to be met so tt i can qualify for OCS in NDU? how many ppl do they choose from a batch of divers to go for OCS? any diving officers? plz help!

I think the chances are close to zero
btw, SMS scholars are just 2nd to SAFOS..so it's ain't that easy to get it either..
Performance in OCS is darn hell of important..not mentioning the interview too.. -

Aren't diploma higher than "A" levels.

Esp during the SMS interviews....the way they ask questions are just to trap yourself in a corner seeing how you get out of the situation
But it aint mean that those who do the interviews know a lot either abt the army

u dun get to choose..unless u are really lucky to get a air or sea vocation..
Usually u have to sign on to be able to be a Navy or Air Force Officer..
