There's one time our M113 APC overturn at the foot of the hill, nobody was hurt but the commander was hopping mad and he told the the entire company to right the entire thing by ourselves again! Wah piang! Siong until cannot make it. And that's not all! After that, he told us to lift up the APC and carry it to the top of the hill! It took us about four hours, and after that still got to carry on with training...

Maybe i have been to the rocky hill at tekong but not know it. However, the FOFO hill at pasir laba is a hell place to dig. That's what i know. I do not know why they let us use changkols anyway, we use to dig with ET sticks and blades where only once we dug with changkol was company's defence. Five men digging four fire trenches but it was alright. Ya, the sandflies, live firing area's mosquitoes and ants' bites turn out to be the worst thing of the entire outfield. Spiders, we saw quite a number, the size of my palm. But they are harmless unless provoke. The ants.. bloodly airborne ants. Well, i shall describe what i considered the three most siong experience yet. It was the "24km" route march around pasir laba and lim chu kang. We were there early that day, i think it was in the afternoon. We were at one of the hills in pasir laba, learning ridgeline fighting in prep for Ex. Lancer til evening. It rained, and our socks were soaked. Formed up at the startline, PLC SOC at 2200 or 2359(can't rem as we started alot of missions there). My PC has intructed us to carry 6x1.25l water bottles in our fieldpacks, but i only have 1.5s. So we start our route march, march up and down and up and down. I can only rem stopping at LCK cemetery, space(entrance to M203 and LAW ranges) and others are on the track along the route. At times we walked way more than 4km(we know as we walked alot of times) before we got to rest. We went up and down the hills at pasir laba like three times, going down was difficult and i think some guys lost their toenails due to being soaked in water for so long. From night we marched til 7-8am where the end point is... the top of elephant hill i think. During the last 12km of the march i was carrying one saw of my section mates suffering from a shoulderache for around 8km before i pass to my sergeant for the last 4km. We knew it was certainly more than 24km, when i asked my sergeant. He said it was 32km.
Learnt a new meaning to slp walking. Prior to this "24km" route march, there was the "16km" route march. My PC instructions, 8x1.25l water bottles. Again i was carrying 1.5s, how heavy is a fully-filled jerry can? but it was at east coast park. Another was the Company mission exercise, FBO, "hor-lan -ded" in woodcutter's trail. I rate this three as the most siong i've been through so far. -

Oooh, yeah, Thailand. Battalion exercise, chopper insertion, 6 click FBO run to the RV point in 46 degree weather. That was fun.
Starlight was a gas as well. Finished the first mission, started raining and didn't stop until God knows when. Hiding under a sewerage pipe was the highlight of my week. By the last mission, our 84 gunners were charging up the hill by throwing the damned things, running a few steps to catch up with it and then throwing it again!
And then, of course, there was BMT. The highest I counted was 540 pushups in FBO and 1460 scissors jumps. -

Cdo BMT at the old site, where the company lines were well out of sight and earshot of battalion HQ. Back then nobody could grill the CO or RSM about not monitoring treatment of the men!
