Ya, i just return from an exercise. Dammit! the sandflies and mosquitoes won't stop tekaning my hands. Everytime i open my eyes, there will be one mosquitoe on my hand. Nv seen a sandfly before! only their bite marks.

still rem the time while i was on course.
the parade sq at the accomodation block always has alot of mosquitoes. and we always conduct our last parades at the sq at night. so we always end up feeding the mosquitoes during the last parades. and our instructors always catch us moving in the file during such parades.
so we were thinking the worse punishment one can kanna for moving in the file is not push up but to make the person stand still at the parade sq and become mosquito fodder! -

Ya, sandfly bites may be small but they don't bite once. Normally it's three bites at one time.... I counted 40++ on my right hand. It will stay red and itchy for around one week, if you scratch it til there's secretion, there will be scars. They don't bite through clothing, they will run around on your skin. Then before you know it, they had striked. Lim chu kang has alot of them, enjoy.

SAF insect repellant is the best. don't waste $ on commercial ones.

this is something i heard lah, when i was in sispec, heard that few batches before mine, some trainees in a different coy are ask to apply their own faeces on their faces as a punishment by their instructors. It happened in ROC. but then again, this is what i heard lah, so not confirm. -

I mean it's training right? Do we need to train to be bitten by mosquitoes, sandflies or ants...? There's more shit we can't do because of tactical reasons. in any case, alot of the "canot do" haf good reasons. no we do not need to be trained to be bitten by insects. tts y we haf insect repellent and camo scarf.
but i agree wif u - there shud be consistency in stds. -
Haiz.... alot of crap in SAF. How to train soldiers to take proper cover using blanks? I can only look forward to ORD.

in the end, it is how serious the trainers and trainees are with their training. if they take training seriously, even though there r constraints, training can and will be meaningful. -
But you should know sweat will just dilute it and when you sweat you will attract mosquitoes and sandflies. insect repellent is not realli meant to be applied on our skin u noe. i stopped doing tt cos it burns, and makes one super hot and uncomfortable! so i jus apply on my no. 4 around the openings and on those areas where mosquitoes love to attack, e.g. butt, back. i jus apply abit here and there on the face and neck. yes its effect is not ever lasting but it works too. jus need to reapply every now and den e.g. when come to a stop during movement.Originally posted by jacobs:But you should know sweat will just dilute it and when you sweat you will attract mosquitoes and sandflies. hehe.. i haven had the experience of camo scarf trapping sandflies. i always kanna sandfly bites on the hands oni, no where else. dunno y oso. camo scarf ard the neck protects frm mosquitoes quite well. den no need apply camo on the neck too. -
I seldom kenna alot of mosquitoes bites per outfield and I'll share how I apply SAF insect repellant.
1) Squeeze some on the back of 1 hand
2) Use the back of the other hand and spread around your exposed hands and forearm.
3) Once you feel arga enough liao, rub it to the back and around your neck using the back of both hands.
By using the back of your hands, you can prevent accidentally getting the repellant on your fingers which might burn your eyes when you blur blur rub them. This is how I apply lah. To protect your legs, juz squeeze some and apply onto your slacks loh. I found out that mosquitoes favourite spots are hamstrings area. hehee...
Anyway, I thought this thread is about tekan experiences rite? deviate liao leh
