  The 5-star ranks are used only for war time, at least in war time. As for Field-Marshals (spelt with only one 'l', btw.), I remember reading an article about Britain saying goodbye to that rank in a ceremony some years ago.
  
  I haven't got a chance to meet any high ranking officers. Well... I'm not even in NS yet.
