Honestly there is nothing good about being a sergeant. Kana arrow from ppl on top, then kana alienated by your corporals and lance corporals. U ask them to do stuff, they say u use rank to press them. If they dun do, u kana flame by PC or other higher authority. Lose-lose situation la.
Good thing about being sergeant is u get 3 stripes to hao lian, but i dun see the point when there are PCs who are 19 or 20 nowadays. Secondly is higher pay than CPL or LCP.

in my impression, all sgt mus at least go thru bslc.

to get sgt without sispec you can be a CQMS. most likely is you posted to unit as men then get selected to go for CQ course and also get three strips -
Specialists from OETI or AETI also get three stripes

SISPEC is only for PES A or B and training for combat roles. Other ways are AETI, OETI or CQ course.
As for being alienated by your men, it all depends on your people skills liao. I have a good relationship with my men.

clerks, mechanics & CQs can be 3SG without going thru sispec, not sure abt others...

medic also can be 3sgt without going to sispec. drivers too. actually quite a lot of ways lah, so the bottom line is, if you want to lead men in combat (appointment holder), must go sispec loh.

2SG is more common for regulars and not NSF.
The nsf with 2SG are normally the platoon sergeants, so again these are combat apointment holders, hence sispec -
2SG r qt rare for NSF.
but i heard there's such a thing as "local" 2SG? -

not rare already lah nowadays.. 2SG all those PS lor.. and most went got PS course at ASTW also.. so not really local already lah... they even have acting CSM for NSF now... haha that mean. the NSF go course after course lor.. BMT/BSLC/ASLC/PS COURSE/CSM COURSE. haha all in active time... so when they go back to their unit they are helping a regular CSM running the company lor... and once they ORD they become their reservist unit CSM lor. haha got pro and con lah actually. haha..Originally posted by Nothingie:2SG r qt rare for NSF.

My PS was a NSF local 2SG. My coy really shorthanded, so 'promote' him to do more dirty work loh.

OETI gives you 3SG. It applies to whether you are an Armament, Automotive, Radar and Comms, or Electronics Tech, as long you have a Diploma or 'A' Levels.BTW, the rank is not local rank.Its the real deal.
