It's not complete without you - this is the theme for this year's Total Defence (TD) campaign. It is also a reminder to all Singaporeans, regardless of race, religion, age or occupation, that we all have a role to play in helping to keep Singapore safe.
To find out more about TD, a wide range of activities has been planned. Here are some of the highlights:
TD Exhibition at Suntec City (14 and 15 Feb)
Highly trained professionals from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), and the Singapore Police Force (SPF), will showcase their latest equipment and capabilities.
Visitors will get the opportunity to touch some of the protective suits worn by the personnel from the SAF Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosives (CBRE) Defence Group, as well as view some of the robots they use, to handle terrorism threats.
Jamboree @ SAFRA Yishun Country Club (14 and 15 Feb)
Come express your support and commitment to TD through sketching or writing messages on white ceramic tiles, which will then be pieced together to form an attractive mural. President S R Nathan and Minister for Defence, Rear-Admiral (RADM) (NS) Teo Chee Hean, will be among some 2,000 Singaporeans who will express their pledges in this unique way.
Visitors can also test their knowledge on TD by participating in a quiz called, 'Who wants to be a TD King'. Local artistes like Tanya Chua, Sheik Haikal and Randall Tan will also entertain audiences in a special concert.
Island-wide sounding of the Public Warning Signal (PWS) (13 Feb)
Just after noon, the PWS will be sounded throughout Singapore. Public education messages on the PWS will be explained to students in schools. They will learn more about the concept of In-Place Protection (IPP), which are steps you should take in the event of the release of a chemical agent.
Also look out for a refrigerator magnet that lists emergency telephone numbers, in your post box. These magnets will be sent to every household in Singapore by the end of this month or early next month.
The importance of TD will be further reiterated through a nine-month TD mass communication campaign that will include television commercials, infomercials and advertisements.
