Differences of Regimental Police (RP)/ Military Police (MP)?

  PDS - Precision Drill Unit, what you see on National Day with those rifle drills..
  
  SIB - Special Investigation Branch, something like civilian's CID, investigate any offences that occurs in the SAF..
  
  Dog Unit - Train dogs and MPs to perform attack, tracking, contraband search etc..
  
  ARP - Anti Riot Police, called when there's a riot which involves the SAF..
  
  ZPU - Zonal Provost Unit, not very sure what it does..
  
  DB - Detention Barracks, MPs posted there to jaga the inmates, aka Brazil team becoz of their yellow shirts and blue shorts..
  
  Motorcade Unit - Rides the motorbikes and book MID vehicles that breaks traffic rules.. Also provide motorcade escort to the President etc..
  
  GOH - Guard of Honour.. They train to perform GOH duties when the president or whoever host foreign visitors or head of states.. Also take turns to stand outside Istana..
  
  Plus, some are posted out to other units to jaga the security etc..
  
  All these from the best of my knowledge larh.. the terms or scope might be wrong..

  Anyone know why those who join mp cannot be an officer even if they have a degree?

  mp is already unit liao, u wan b officer u must go ocs first b4 u get posted to provost unit... btw is not wat qualification u got tat determines u bcm officer, its ur leadership skill n ur attitude...

  ya,i strongly agree on what u wrote.An officer should not have only outstanding leadership skill but a good attitude as well towards his work and his men...but to qualify for ocs u need to have a diploma or degree and i only have itc if i sign on as mp.so i'm thinking that if i get a degree or diploma later during my career and possess an outstanding conduct as specialist,do i stand a chance to go to ocs.is there such a thing as an mp spec going to ocs?
  
  P.S: btw i ask this question when i go to the recruitment center but the guy at the career info counter knew little about mp and couldn't answer my questions so i'm hoping u guys can help.

  its possible for a spec to go ocs. oni complications mabe when u haf signed on, and the conversion from one scheme to another. oso, there is the age limit for ocs cadets (dunno exactly wat it is though).

  gd tat u hv tis ambition... haven heard got anybody jump from spec to officer b4 except a WO convert to cpt... mayb u can try to tok to more experienced personnel at the recruitment center ..

  And to add,there is no officers direct entry scheme for mp but there is for the other vocations.
  So for example a uni grad who is interested in joining mp as regular, will also join as a specialist.is that rite?
  Why does mp do not have the officers direct entry scheme for uni grads unlike other vocations?

  usually the regulars(officers) there r posted from other units... no idea y no direct entry oso...

  I've tried to look for the more experienced personnel but the recruitment is practically empty with only 2 ns corporal at the career info counter and some dxos at the back office.
  Even the guy who tend to me said that it is very rare for someone to ask them about mp.most of the people ask the about cdos,guards,infantry,etc but not mp.

  if can wait, look out for the recruitment exhibition... usuali got mps there, they should b answer the conversion issue...

  You can think of RP as the Police CISCO
  and MP as the Police catching Army Personnel out there.
  
  RP is more into security while MP is law enforcement.
  So if you go AWOL (Absence Without Offical Leave) .. for some time, expect the MP to come knocking at your door!
  
  The RP don't do that.. most just make sure you got your camp pass on and the make sure you don't bring those contraband stuffs and is in good attire...

  u went there urself? suggest perhaps calling to ask first. there r a few CPTs there anyway. haf spoken to one of them b4. but they r in charge of diff schemes and vocations. mabbe u wanna try calling them and asking abt becoming an MP officer and ask who u shud talk to.

  ZPU/ZPC - escort detainee from units to SAFPU before transfering them to SAFDB.Also do jega detainees when they are sent to hospital.That was what we do when i was there in the 90s.I guess they are doing about the same thing now except it is more easy for them for the transfering of the detainees as SAFPU and SAFDB is so close together now.

  Maybe u're rite.but if this is true,why must they get officers from the other vocations to be mp officers?imho isn't it better for safpu to promote one of their own?surely there are outstanding mp specialists who deserve to be officers in their own vocation.Futhermore they are are already trained as mp and have experience being an mp.

  oh.. wat i said is one possible track. i never discounted the possibility of converting one of their own specialists into an MP.
  
  however the same applies to other vocations like guards. the officers go thru the std inf/gds/cdo trg and are commissioned, b4 going for their conversion courses. so i guess this applies to the MP officers as well. the underlying notion is likely tt the MP officer is in the end stil army officer, closer to the inf/gds/cdo and hence shud go thru their trg. the conversion cse jus makes him more specialised.
