there is no special tri-svc term, or in fact, OCC for IOs, since IO is a tri-svc vocation - meaning officers from any background and svc can go into it.Originally posted by danielle0309:Have acouple of qns re IOs. regulars offrs are constantly rotated betw staff and field work, intel is largely a staff dept isit? then how is the rotation done? Also, how is the tri-svr term like for intel offrs?
Anyone noes wat is the selection criteria for IOs?
Thanks
Battalion Recce Company. Recce = Reconnaisance. you should noe wat they do.Originally posted by danielle0309:oh i see now. Thanks =) so it means tt io gets to go out into the field too. anyway wats brc?
Hmmm... I think BRC should be Brigade Recce Company... As for the Battalion estab will be just the Scout Platoon.. Always 2 levels down... Cheers...Originally posted by wuming78:Battalion Recce Company. Recce = Reconnaisance. you should noe wat they do.![]()

Becoz its Intelligence Officer, not Intelligence specialistOriginally posted by Nothingie:Why is there a pre-req that the person muz qualify for OCS?
If he has the intellectual capability, but not the physical part, then he cannot do the job?
i wont say they are the elites. the elites are everywhere in the saf not jus confined to one vocation.Originally posted by BMEngineer:So are they consider the 'elites' of the officers? Is it very difficult to get selected for Intelligence officer during OCS?
as mentioned, the work of an intelligence officer is multi-faceted, and involves field work too. hence they need to be of a certain standard when it comes to their physical conditions.Originally posted by Nothingie:Why is there a pre-req that the person muz qualify for OCS?

yea, we need them for our splinter cellsOriginally posted by wuming78:as mentioned, the work of an intelligence officer is multi-faceted, and involves field work too. hence they need to be of a certain standard when it comes to their physical conditions.

I think tat by making OCS a pre-req, they may be losing some of the pple who can really make it as intel officers... if they want 'specialised' personnel, they should be prepared to scarifice some of the other conditions.Originally posted by wuming78:as mentioned, the work of an intelligence officer is multi-faceted, and involves field work too. hence they need to be of a certain standard when it comes to their physical conditions.
Hahaha. Ya, those are the IO i met too. THe only time they need to go to the jungle is during the JCC period during their OCS time. They even fail their IPPT and only manage to pass near the workyear ends. The IO I get to know not really that intelligent leh....only know how to backstab people and pass remark w/o even thinking...Originally posted by kopiosatu:the IOs i know sit in air-con office and earn extra allowances...

well. the scheme is as such - they wan personnel staffing this position to be officers. and again as i mentioned, the intel officer would need to be rotated among different tours and some of these are likely to require more physical activities and more field work, and also more contact with men. in any case, an intel officer is likely to have at least some men below him to help him in his work.Originally posted by Nothingie:I think tat by making OCS a pre-req, they may be losing some of the pple who can really make it as intel officers... if they want 'specialised' personnel, they should be prepared to scarifice some of the other conditions.
as for leadership of officers, do intelligence officers who are involved in planning, etc really need to lead men? (excluding those in recce, BRC, etc)
other than those actualli out the ground, i dun think those in the mindef or div lvl need physical... wat do they do? run to get their pens from their office?
were we from the same unit? hahahahahahahahaha!Originally posted by Bochupi:Hahaha. Ya, those are the IO i met too. from wat i noe, u haf to get into ocs, den sign as an IO. u will den go for selection - nothing physical. dont think there r NSF IOs.Originally posted by BMEngineer:Is the selection of the IO held during OCS course or the cadet already know that they are going to be IO?
Sounds like it is very interesting to be an IO. Another consideration for me if I decided to sign on. Sianz however have to survive BMT first and successful go to OCS first...Just heard from somewhere that the intake for OCS for Poly batch is much lower...Don know if thie is true or not.Originally posted by wuming78:from wat i noe, u haf to get into ocs, den sign as an IO. u will den go for selection - nothing physical. dont think there r NSF IOs.
