hm.. lemme c.. there are 4 intakes each yr, of wich 2 are mostly JC, 2 are mostly poly. the size of all the wings are the same. the number of wings they take in at each intake is roughly the same too - depending on the service. so i wont say there is much diff in terms of the number they accept from the poly batch and the jc batch. perhaps its a matter of perception.Originally posted by BMEngineer:Sounds like it is very interesting to be an IO. Another consideration for me if I decided to sign on. Sianz however have to survive BMT first and successful go to OCS first...Just heard from somewhere that the intake for OCS for Poly batch is much lower...Don know if thie is true or not.
Confirm IO lah...If you got chance to see IO Dinner anniversary photos, they are in it.Originally posted by wuming78:not sure if they r realli IOs though. wich unit u refering to?

this is required of all middle and above commanders, not only the IOs.Originally posted by Slee981:Well.. Two things that I am very impressed with the IOs are their ability to appreciate the terrain and their "Int Lingo"...
>> The presence of the Pt. 100 which allows the defender to overlook the TOMATO Axis obliges the defender to defend strongly and stubbornly.
>> The presence of the TOYOTA Axis which allows a speedy North-South projection of the attackers' forces, obliges the defender to heavily "obstaclize" the axis.

not too sure.. well. not surprising rite? they dont go around publicising exactly what they do. but since its military intelligence, i guess it is likely to be both strategic and tactical and includes active and passive means.Originally posted by Jazzswing:What kind of intelligence do they do..strategic or tactical? If it's strategic..does it include ..you know James Bond or splinter cell stuff? (Just examples of field agents).
no idea. but i suspect not - as long as its within the saf supported fields (say for ATA, they allow awardees to take up a range of courses, and they also explicitly list some courses which they do not support)Originally posted by BMEngineer:Do they limit what kind of degree that you have to do to become an IO? I am afraid they will do so.
If you think James Bond and splinter cell type work is cool, you're in luck, so far have been to two separate selections for intell type work and found that MINDEF only looking for butterfly collectors.Originally posted by Jazzswing:What kind of intelligence do they do..strategic or tactical? Went for MINDEF selection test at Civil Service Institute, almost all candidates has same question as above. I understand almost none (few) got that role. Most were routed to do field work. Suspect most will be scholar 'choped' places from either OTA scheme. Sour grapes? maybe..Originally posted by LazerLordz:Heard there are Intelligence and Policy Analysts in Joint Intelligence and Joint Policy. They are civilans if I'm not wrong.Any idea how and what are their criterias are for joining?
Forget Institute of Policy study or Institute of defence studies etc. minimium PhD gained overseas, anyway small department attached to Arts fac. not full blown school. They 'write' occassional' papers and organize seminars etc only no undergraduate stuff.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Well, but they are not military personnel. Therefore SAFOS and SMS can be ruled out.Perhaps they hire fellas who are quite experienced in this field already, say from Institute of Policy Studies or the Institute of South East Asian Studies.
