was making this list for my frens... so tought might as well post it here for the benefit of everyone... enjoy~
heres all the essential stuff u will need to bring.. get all at beach rd so u will get the correct ones...
and btw.. don't buy from the malay vendors... they charge too high a price.. go find tis stall with a big sign '133' .. its near the staircase by the toilet.. this chinese auntie sells her stuff quite cheap.. recommended by my sergeant too.. hee
MUST bring stuff
ziploc bags - small, medium, large ... at least 5 of each
black tape x 3 - the ones u use to insulate wires .. buy the sansui brand cos theres more tape compared to the other brands like hunter or thunder... used intensively to secure items.. plus ur buddies borrowing from u.. ha ha
blue tape x 1 - same as above.. for wrapping your dummy grenades
clear tape x 1 - the large ones
black rubber bands - small x 10, big x 1.. small ones for SBO... big one for helmet
black perm marker - for labeling your army stuff wif your 4D number.. hee
black pen - no pens of other colours are allowed!
pencil
clothes hangers - get at least 8 .. must be SAME colour
clothes pegs - as much as u feel necessary
washing powder
slippers - to go toilet or bath
toothbrush/toothpaste
toiletries - soap, shampoo, facial foam.. watever
shaver
nail cutter
underwear - lots .. unless u wanna wash everyday
grey admin tshirt with army logo x 2 - they will give u two .. u buy two..so together four.. use some for standby (display set) and some for use
grey singlet with army logo x 2 - same as above
black shorts x 2 - same as above
green army towel x 1 - for fieldpack.. get a slightly smaller one than usual so u can make a smaller pack no2 for inspection.. hee.. but DONT get a hand towel!
home tshirt - bring 1 for sleeping so you dun need to wear the army ones.. bring 1 own shorts if u wan .. no need jacket... they will give u a veri gd gortex one
orange cloth x 1 - they will give u one... one for fieldpack.. one for standby
small key lock x 1- pass 1 key to your buddy .. also try to buy a better brand lock like yale
comms cord x 1 - attach to SBO .. get the medium sized ones..
rags or scotchbrite - for area cleaning
lighter
batteries for torch
extra handphone batteries - NO chargers are allowed! dun bring camera phone also
empty yakult bottles x 2 - for making your dummy grenades
coins and some cash - for vending machines, canteen breaks, emart purchases as your credit would not be here yet and no NETS at emart .. and for platoon fund if there is any .. dun bring too much cash tho.. $20 is sufficient
Recommended optional items
small L-torch - personal use.. u can buy maglite wif u wan... cos L-torch eats batteries too fast..
cheap digital watch
alarm clock - no need to bring unless u wanna OTOT .. cos surely got pple bring one
reciever - for own entertainment at nite
febreeze - when u dun have time to wash clothes
dettol/lysol disinfectant spray - disinfect your personal stuff like boots, shoes etc .. and during periods where the whole platoon seems to be sick..
snake powder - they will give SAF powder too..
tupperware - for putting your writing materials and other stuff .. i use them to compartmentalize my drawer for tidyness..
small thirsty hippo - your sergeant might make this a standby bed item
magiclean wipper - for area cleaning to remove dust easily
rifle sling - cos the one they give u is kana sai... unless u lucky and get a new one
Pi Pa Kao - a must to prevent cough
vitamin C tablets - boost immune system.. so will not fall sick easily
glucose - for better tasting water and for energy during PT.. get the non-flavoured ones cos theres a possibility of trouble if u pour purple water (grape flavoured) out of your water bottle during water parade.. hahahahaha
medication - like yoko yoko, zambok, medicated oil, sano plast, tiger balm, medicated plasters.. etc
spectacle hook/strap - prevents your specs from flying off during PT
optional items
snacks - u can bring biscuits, cup noodles ... theres a hot water cooler at lvl 3 of each coy
magazines - a hot favourite is FHM
instant coffee, milo, cereal - up to u
your own cup - for making your hot drinks at nite .. they din't give me any army mug.. so better to bring one
your own fork/spoon - to eat your cup noodles

Things to do before enlistment

17. snake powder - that is what they would recommend usually; you will get saf powder too.

24. orange cloth (you will need to get eventually, but you can get it inside too)

of course during bmt you wont have to have and you are likely not allowed to have certain things u want to get yourself (e.g. own torchlight, compass). this just serves as a guide.
and a standard rule of thumb: always secure all your items! i secure things like the torchlight and even jackknife to my sbo.
in both lists the * items are more important. -

Also, do people sneak in hp chargers as phone batteries are expensive. Btw, how many phone batteries is recommended? Is the public payphone far and will it be crowded? -

fone batteries depends on your frequency of usage. for the first 3-wk confinement, you may need more. subsequently when you can bk out weekly there wont be a need to bring extra. you wont have alot of time for calls too.
its advisable to bring coins / fone card for public fones. there are public fones on the ground floor of each coy (i suppose this applies still), and u will be surprised - now that everyone uses a hp, the public fones are left alone, so you wont need to queue for them! -

mm.. i havent seen the new ones yet...
im still using the old ones... the most recent ptp batch were also wearing the old ones... so i guess the next batch of enhanced bmt will also be wearin the same old ones... hee -
